We have 10 EE girls in this coop. I have a few changes I would like to make, like re-enforcing the roof, covering the door and bottom area with the clear roofing and building a heated water base. We get a lot of snow (as you can see) lol. So the clear panels all around the outside keep the snow...
I got an egg today!!! It's small and green, I'm so excited! The girls were all hatched 5.5.10 and I'm not sure which one did it, but I did hear the egg song today.
No Eggs here, but we did have a girl hanging out in the nesting box for about an hour last night while all the others were perched, she went to bed after that with everyone else. She also was singing the egg song earlier that day. But today I haven't heard anything but their normal chatter.
I'm...
When I see the girls I bock at them, at first it was just fun to see the looks they gave me. But now when I bock at them, they all come running. Chickens are funny.
I thought about hanging fly paper in the coop, but wasn't sure how I could get it to stay in one place without getting stuck to a chicken. I can't wait to try this! Thanks for the good Idea.

I never thought I would be wondering where I could hide a bin of worms in the house from the husband so that I can raise them. But you guys have me hooked! I want to try it too. I'm pretty sure he would freak out at the idea, so I would need a good place to store them. Do they smell at all...
So I went to check on the girls and close the run door since they were all in bed and as I was counting them on their roost when I noticed one was missing. It's because she was in the nesting box! No egg, but I'm excited she was in there checking it out. Maybe there will be an egg in the...
I am anxious for eggs and would love to see who else in in the same boat as me, time wise.
My Girls hatched May 5th, so they will be 18 weeks on the 1st. They are getting red and dark pink around the eyes and comb area, but no squatting or singing the "egg song" yet.
I think I probably have...
I'm mean and have the garden fenced off from the rest of the yard (originally it was to keep the babies out, but now the kids know how to work the gate latches). They do get access to the raspberry bushes which they LOVE. I don't mind either because it's probably pretty good shelter from any...
I took this pic today and thought you guys would enjoy it. They really enjoy cruising the backyard and this is what they did today right before they all came out.
So the girls ( they will be 4 weeks old on Wednesday) have been outside for about a week (shut in their coop with the light on since we did get into the 30s, yikes!) They outgrew their space in the house, were getting really dusty and if I left the top off their brooder, they kept wanting to fly...
I don't have any input, but they are beautiful birds. I can't wait to see what my 10 EEs are going to look like when they grow up. They are almost 4 weeks now.
Thanks for the great chickens.
