I’ve had a Mille Fluer for almost 4 yrs now! She is named Barbie (to help my family remember she’s Barbu). They have feathered legs and all birds have a body temp of 102°-107°— it’s why they can handle the cold as long as they have protection from physical elements like WIND, rain, snow, etc...
Well dang, that's exactly what I did only I didn't add the layer feed(pellets/crumbles). I just used a series of 3, gallon ice cream buckets and just set the lid on it upside down. I stirred it twice a day and on the third day I used that grain. Probably just in my own head because they loved...
I tried this once... I don't think I had the right "grains", so it was frustrating. I also loosely covered the buckets. Is a cover not necessary? I'll probably move this project to the garage as well.
Loose lid? No lid? That is the question 🤪
So…. This was supposed to be a hen…I got it from a neighbor who got a shipment of various breeds of pullet chickens. It reminded me of my barred rock that died.
Is this a barred rock roo or a Maran. I think it’s a Maran roo.
I have to keep mine in the barn again this winter. It’s a good barn, with insulation and metal siding. That makes a good element protection. It’s not deep winter yet at 10-15° in northern SD, the barn stays a balmy 20°. Most the chickens are cold weather breeds. I blocked off a stall and put up...

This is from our AC Roo and gray hen a Cochin frizzle/Yokohama. I can only presume that it is from the Yokohama hen because I had zero white chickens before him.
PearlMan
Hen: Yokohama Red Shoulder/Black Cochin frizzle—the only hen who could have a white chicken gene.
AC roo
My AC are pure, but not from a good line. My female was from a solid black/no mulberry(she was killed by a dog) left us a male and female from eggs we hatched. The Rooster had lotsa mulberry he passed on so…. Anyway, he was a good guardian and was also killed by that dog.
Mine are pets because...
Anyone can correct me if I’m wrong or misled…I read and was told that purple is a vitamin deficiency unless the bird is meant to be purple—not really any chickens fall in this category unlike gamebirds: peafowl, some ducks, songbirds.
I make sure I NEVER see purple on my Ayam Cemani despite...
Most chickens grow them. It’s a species feature. The males will have SIGNIFICANT spurs. We trim our Silkie roo. His are noticeable…I put the little covers on them so he wouldn’t hurt the girls so much.
My daughters bought three ISA brown and one golden comet checks from TSC at Easter. By this time, September, I am going to presume that they are going on five months old. I think they have started laying eggs, they are the only dark brown egg breed I have. However, the one that is the golden...
It might be this…please read…I thought my hen was affected by the culling last week of the two mean bullies (roosters that attack us, each other, the hens).
She stopped laying. Separated herself. Stopped eating and drinking for 3 days. I isolated her and been gave her soft mash and vitamins...
