Yeah I got a notice today from the HOA about my chickens...after 5 years of owning them. Anyway, long story short, here's yet another thread asking 'has anyone faced their HOA and actually gotten them to back off/change rules/etc?' Any tips?
I am hoping to talk with the board before they start...
This is my second time raising chicks, but last time I had chicks in the middle of summer. It was so hot outside I was able to throw them out in their pen before 4 weeks of age. There were also 13 of them so they had plenty of friends to keep company and warmth if needed.
I have three chicks...
I can't seem to find any information about this online... I'm allergic to duck eggs. I recently had someone ask me if that included Muscovy eggs, since they're not descended from mallards. Are Muscovy eggs different enough that someone with a duck egg allergy can eat them, or no? Anyone have any...
This is the first year I've had a rooster, and when my gals started laying again earlier this month I decided why not, let's see if my rooster knows what he's supposed to do. General Tso, the rooster, is a game fowl/red sex link cross, I hatched him on July 1st of this past year. Two hens are...
I just wrapped up my first attempt at raising and processing meat chickens. 9 total (the 10th is a rooster I did exactly what I said I wouldn't do with and became very fond of, so at least for now he's still around), various breeds. I personally think the meat looks pretty good for a first...

The chick...
I'll soon be starting my great meat chicken adventure and I'm looking for some hatching eggs! I'm interested in dual-purpose breeds (in case I, forgive the pun, chicken out and become too attached to the chicks, at least I can get eggs from them), and I'd like no more than 6 eggs to start with...
I live in a suburban neighborhood, I've got three chickens right now, a laying hen and two pullets. My county allows backyard poultry with a license, and my HOA's wording on outside pets is vague (they say 'no livestock raised for commercial purposes' well...mine are for personal use :P). My...
Sorry, I tend to ramble. I also like photos. Hope you guys do too.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I got my gals a bit over a year ago, but before then I was as good as new to chickens. I'd wanted chickens for a while, then I bought my own house and the rest is...
