It took me 3 stores to find meat here beef or chicken. There is a run on everything. Finally found meat at a little local place but even there they had people trying to buy up all they had left with no regard for others.
My mom and I are already respitorily compromised, I with bad asthma and her with COPD so we are staying home as much as possible and limiting contact with people outside of close family. My husband has stoped going to the casino. We all wash our hands for frequently. We are worried it but we are...
Probably on the early side but it likely won’t do them harm. The main reason they say not to feed layer feed to early is non laying chickens don’t need the extra calcium and to much calcium can cause kidney issues. The key thing is could cause it isn’t a definite thing. I have found starting the...
Today I did chicken chores and let my girls explore a bit. We have had a hawk in the area lately and I’m paranoid it will decide my chickens look like a snack. They were happy to be out even if it did get cut short by Mr. Hawk.
If there is anyway to modify the coop to raise the roost it may be your best bet. Sleeping on the roost is much cleaner for the chickens since they poop all night. Also your roost bars seem to be close in level with your nest boxes. a roost similar height or lower than your nest boxes encourages...
I thought of doing this myself not so much for they money just because I enjoy brooding chicks and watching them grow. I decided against it because as other people stated I could end up with a lot of birds left over and I can’t keep more.
I would ask around your local area see if it’s something...
Thank you we hope Cloud turns out to be a hen too but if not we have a rooster plan that doesn’t end in a dinner table. Cloud is far to sweet tempered to go to the dinner pot.
Our family has...
17 chickens all with names
Luna the shelter kitten
4 chihuahuas
1 Sparrow named Icarus (rehabilitated but can’t return to the wild)
Many fish and one pond frog that decided to join them in wintering over in the basement. We call him Kermit.
That’s what I fear since I can’t keep a rooster where I live. Can you please tell me what says cockerel to you so I can know what to look for in the future?
I have a silkie named Cloud that I’m starting to suspect is a rooster. They are between 17 and 18 weeks old. I know they don’t have they right type of comb for a Silkie, they came from a hatchery so it happens sometimes. If anyone could check out the pictures I’ve posted and give me a guess it...
Good luck on your quest to find out what he is and get one for yourself. If you know who his owner is you could ask about chicks or fertile eggs for incubation. He looks like he has some hens so it can’t hurt to ask if they have either that you could get from them.
Not much gardening going on in Michigan this time of year but it is a nice sunny morning so I’m watching my chickens wonder around my garden and dreaming of all the lovely things I’m going to grow in the spring. Does that count?
