Ooh nice! That is really an awesome shelter. You are fare more talented than I am. I have big ideas, I can picture what I want, translating that to actually making it... fail. I would have made a terrible architect Or engineer. My brain just can’t put together how to get from point A to point B LOL.
Ooh take pics when done! I don’t have ducks, but I am always looking for easy ways to build shelters.
The diapers, I made them on a whim yesterday. They are imperfect, but the one for the girl is working well. The boy’s is a little big, and well, you saw how he reacted to wearing anything...
Almost exactly! I put the diaper on the girl. She hated it, but she decided to power on and deal with it. I put the diaper on the boy. He turned to goo and fell to the ground. He refused to get up or walk. He basically played dead.. until he started flinging himself around... and then went back...
2 incubators going already, you’d think hatching emu would have been enough of a challenge for a while! In the incubators are mostly Silkie eggs, but I tossed in a few of our own Serama eggs for the first time.
The Silkie eggs were bought from Sharon Honea (Partridge and Paint) and Kate...
So, the BF decided to also get goats. They arrive next week. They get our current attention for buildings. We have to make some sort of shack for them because I draw the line at having goats in the house LOL.
There will be an Emu house eventually. I have to confess, they aren’t going to last...
I’m looking forward to yours arriving! Can’t wait to see pics and hear about the adventures. What day do you get them?
We are enjoying them. I moved them to a “run” in the living room. More learned lessons...
Carpet, even indoor/outdoor, is a dilemma while the weather is cold. We can’t have...
So far, Baby C‘s (that is what my 27 year old son called abc’s lol) and Bumble B. LOL We haven’t come up with anything, we’re just using what we called them in the eggs. Hopefully we will think of something soon.
Now that the hatch is done... it has been an adventure! I’m going to include the good, the bad, and the stupid , for any newbies considering emu. Here’s what I’ve learned this past week:
Raising emu chicks is exhausting.
If you think chicks and chickens have a death wish, you’ve never...
I will post some in the morning. They have exhausted me today. Housing... basement after this week. Then outside in a month or two? If I can stand them inside that long? lol I have a coop that I’ll use to start. We’re building goat housing to start, emus are next.
Lol too funny, yet not, about the eggs. My bf about had a heart attack when we first got chickens and learned how long it would be before they started laying. Now, he won’t let me sell anything that might possibly lay an egg lol.
If you count what is living in our basement, I’m pretty close to...
The Spitz are freaks. :gig I ended up with 3 golden cockerels and a silver pullet. Just gave away 2 of the boys. The pullet is the worst for being flighty. The boys approached for treats, and I can usually grab them. The girl,:he, it’s ring around the Rosie over and over to catch her. The rest...
Pavs are small. I had one hatch from Foxfire that looks similar. I also have Isbar, Marans, CCL, and Spitz from them. I have Isbar (and Barnevelder )from a different breeder as well.
