Review by 'nashua' in article 'Reasons for Tossing Out Your Indoor Brooder and Start Raising Your Chicks Outdoors'

Outstanding clear description of how it works and why. Loved this and it gave me new ideas!

I do. MO sounds pretty good to me. I would likely get fined for firing my shotgun here in CA. Rotten! We are looking for alternate living locations.

    All Hens killed by Dog

Also, I live in CA and even though my lawyer warned in the demand letter that I can shoot if they return, I am not sure yet about the rules in my area. I am going to check on that b/c I do have a good shotgun. I have been watching for them to come back every day and have cameras all over so...

    All Hens killed by Dog

That is exactly why I got the lawyer. I can tell that the bureaucracies are hobbled and slow to handle if at all. So frustrating that a dog owner can get away with this.

That is a great idea, and I am pretty sure my husband could build it! Wouldn't be too hard!

Thanks. I will try this when I have birds again. My lawyer sent a demand letter yesterday to the dog owner. So a waiting game now. Maybe court next. I will not quit.

Do you have something that covers the top? I have a hawk family in a tree quite close on the next property over. I have tried to think of how we might be able to let them graze. There are so many hawks up here in our high valley that we named our place Hawk's Landing!

    All Hens killed by Dog

It's a good thought but I live on 3 acres and I think it might not be cost effective. Does this make sense? Another aspect is I live in a wildlife/urban interface, and many times Road Runners and other animals come under the fence that I don't worry about

    All Hens killed by Dog

I understand. My brother has a Husky and she is beautiful, well trained, and well cared for. He would never let her run loose to aggressively invade the property of others and slaughter at will and she never does.

thank you. I think I will have chickens again, and I did love them so much. that is very helpful on the pricing. Will give it to my lawyer. I will definitely use wire. Would you by chance know how to make a gate in the electric wiring? My brother said use four strands, a foot apart, and a...

    All Hens killed by Dog

We have pretty strong laws and my lawyer just sent him the letter. That is how I am going to handle it now because he does not keep them confined. One last thing I thought of, and this is important: I was on the phone with sheriff dispatch as we arrived home and I told her I was going down to...

    All Hens killed by Dog

I have added all suggestions people have made to the list for my lawyer. I called Humane Law Enforcement, but the officer in charge of my case is on Vacation until next week. The attorney will send the dog owner a demand letter today. I mostly care about enforcing consequences and getting his...

You are reading my mind. Couldn't sleep last night and thought about that a lot! No, won't do it, but want to.

    All Hens killed by Dog

I had 2 speckled Sussex 26 months, 2 easter eggers 5 years old, three 26 month barred rocks. Neighbors dog has repeatedly dug under my fence past year and a half to run on my property and I have warned him to control them. I warned him of my livestock. His dogs came on my property and I was...

    Chicken pecks me.

Yes, I have a wheaten Easter Egger than has done this since she was tiny. She seems to just want attention. She does other things to sort of show off, too. She is 5 years old now.

You know, I didn't realize this until you said it, but you are 100% right. Thank you, Mrs. K
