Backyard chickens have always been a favorite lifestyle/hobby for me. My grandma and dad have had various breeds of chickens from the time I was a child until now. Grandma is gone now but dad has recently built a chicken castle! And of course, gave me CHICKENVI so I've used the title for my...
Thanks a bunch! Really helps clear up my question. My pullets are only about 5 weeks old and they don't have very much of a comb at all yet so. Again thanks and I'll definitely be watching closely to see if they have a rose or single comb.
Got these as chics and I've been told they are Wyandotte. Any idea if they are Columbian Wyandotte or could they be a diff breed of Wyandotte? All 3 look slightly diff in one way or another. One in particular is much smaller than the other two and has darker yellow on its head.
I've been reading this thread for about an hour now and I'm new to Wyandotte. I have 3 pullets I bought as chics. What is the comb issue you've mentioned?
Wow! I would've NEVER guessed pullet. I've done a little more reading on Golden Comets and now I see why everyone says pullet. Lol But there's only ONE outta my 4 that has a redder comb and it's more pronounced than the others. BUT could be just the bossy butts way of saying she's the boss...
Thanks so much. I was told that's what they "thought" they were and I thought so too but always like other opinions. I think I have a young roo and they were supposed to be all pullets. He sure acts like a guardian but is already a little bully and likes to peck. Ugh! Trying to teach him some...
I think I attached the pics twice but it's kinda confusing when you attach pics. Just trying to find out exactly what breed these two chics are. There's a head and body pic of each. Thanks y'all. Finally got a break in the rain earlier today but for the past two hours its POURED. But the chics...

Can you let me know if the second set of "better" pics are available please? It's pretty much the same chicks just much better lighting and positioning. And if you happen to know the breeds.
The way I started this discussion is that I'm a little rusty because it's been quite a while since I owned chickens. I'm pretty sure the feathered feet, 5 toed are Faverolles and I'm thinking the darkest red chick in the new pics are RIR.
Thanks jmns. I was afraid my pics weren't going to be clear enough. "IF" the rain holds out tomorrow I'm definitely getting better pics and possibly of all my newbies because the breeds weren't positively named. I'll reply to this thread tomorrow with better pics "IF" the rain takes a break.
Need a little help please if at all possible at this young of age. Got these a couple weeks ago and not exactly sure of the breed and/or sex. Not that it really matters because they're keepers regardless but just so I know. If better pics are needed I'll do so first thing tomorrow. Lots of rain...
Hey. Just scrolling through and realized you were in my neck of the woods. This is a great website. Anything and everything "chickens". I'm following your feed so we'll learn together. Have a good rest of the evening. 🐥🐣🐔🐓
Very informative but not misleading. I also like the fact that no one is offended if someone corrects their points with facts and it's taken into consideration and appreciates the corrections. This article was great.
Recently purchased several breeds of chicks. Golden comets, Rhode Island Reds, and Faverolles. There still young but growing fast and looking very healthy. Any advice on any of these breeds would be appreciated.
