Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

Hi there, been a while and a lot's happened both in the world and our lives! Anyhoo, we aren't raising quail anymore. The chickens we had were all mysteriously killed by a critter during the day while we were at work. All in one day. So we stopped with all of it until we could build a proper...

    Shipped eggs

Sorry it took so long to reply. I would think you'd just stick them on under the broody, as @Chickens suggested earlier

Incubating Quail eggs: Variations in temperature

I agree with the others that said temps on the low side of that are better than the high ones. It sounds like you're saying that the temps fluctuate to 102. I would think that's pushing it a little too much.

    Shipped eggs

Here's an update for ya. I have been reading another thread about hatching and several have gotten shipped eggs with instructions to put them in the bator right away because the hot weather can cause the eggs to start developing. Duh, I hadn't considered that but it makes perfect sense! Sorry...

    Shipped eggs

Is this your first hatch? I think the reason you let them settle for a couple days after recieving the eggs is because shipping is very hard on the air cell inside the egg and letting them sit for a day or so allows the air pocket(s) to re connect. The email says settling is a good idea. But...

My new pet rat. Meet Earl...

I rescued a rat just like that from my son's python just minutes before he was due to become dinner! I said no way, he's too cute you go get that snake a cockroach or something! That rat was the sweetest little thing, I loved her. She lived 3 years. I forget what we fed her, it's been at least...

Which is a better hatch rate? Broody quail vs incubator

From what I've read on this site, I would think an incubator. It probably depends on the type of quail too, as some are more willing than others to sit on a nest. Coturnix quail are lousy nest sitters, but bobwhites and other wild types may be better. I don't have any scientific facts to quote...

    Storms coming!

I've heard of people wrapping them in blankets. You could do that and shut the vent in the room to keep ambient temp up too, but I'm not sure what else. Somebody will chime in with some good ideas for you. Stay safe!!

    Show me your quail pens!!!

Here's my new one... I didnt make it up, I used the suggestion from "slightly rednecked'. This is before it got painted all the way. I would change a couple things next time. There are 13 in there and it will hold up to 24, not that I would put in more than 15. The next one will be similar, but...

Quail dead at 2 weeks - bath dust???

Ok, If this stuff is mainly DE, I would be cautious. This product doesn't seem birdbath/dustbath friendly! I did almost the same thing with my first batch, (but I used a mix of play sand and DE), and everything was fine and they absolutely loved it. Other than turning my craft room into a dust...
