I totally agree with you both, lolol. I have been getting chicks from Half Moon Bay Fuel and Feed for 7 years and have never gotten males. I have 13 more chicks from them who are 2 weeks to 7 weeks old. I am still keeping my fingers crossed that I don't get any more boys. But I love them, so...
I have 2 free 14 week old cockerels if you are interested. One is a Barnevelder and the other is a Lavender Wyandotte. They are both beautiful and friendly. I am glad to meet you somewhere near Pacifica to give them to you.

I know it has been 9 years since you posted this note but I do have 2 free 14 week old roosters if you are interested. One is a Barnevelder and the other is a Lavender Wyandotte.
I have 33 hens and it is my first time having more than 20. I have 12 laying right now and babies 4 days to 14 weeks. I have a problem. I lose 1 hen and then get 4 more to fill the void in my heart. hahaha
All my girls and super sweet, friendly and have more personality than most people I...
It has been a few years since I have posted. But I always check this site for experienced chicken owners and I love having this information easy to access. I have lost my mind and have exceeded my normal chick limit. Now I have to get another coop. But I love my girls and they love me every day.
Thanks for the info NHMountainman. I read a couple articles and found them quite interesting, didn't show my 2 toned eggs but did explain a lot about other shell variances.
True too, in the big picture of things, I can't see why the varying type of shells would be considered a problem. In the...
Has anyone had chickens who have laid an eggs that is two-toned? How does that happen? I have attached a photo that shows the usual type egg(s) that I get and the 2-toned egg.
Thanks,
Robin
I was wondering if anyone has ever encountered something like this on their hens' legs. I noticed 6 days ago that my hen was limping and her leg was swollen around the band on her leg. I cut off the band and pulled it out of the infected area. I used peroxide on it twice/day and for the first...
She is only losing feathers at the top of her head....so far. I do not have a rooster and none of the other hens go anywhere near her head or anywhere else on her for that matter.
Thank you for asking.
Robin
Thank you. Sometimes when she sits on the other hens' eggs, I feel that she is overwhelmed and thinks there in no way anything that large will be coming out of her body.

Hi,
I have a 26 week old Bantam Cochin, Princess Lou, who hasn't started to lay yet. She goes through the motions of sitting on the other hens eggs acting like she might lay, but then doesn't. Yesterday I noticed that she has started to lose feathers on her head. Ugh, molting before laying...
Thank you all for your great input. I find it all really helpful. The blankets are going in the garbage and I am going to have to figure out what to put on that shelf for them to sit comfortably. The greenhouse shelves are only metal bars and not comfy for them :hmm
Should I just get some...
