Comment by 'jsr5' in article '"Hentirement"'

I loved the article and wholeheartedly agree with your retirment plans. My old girls also take over hatching and raising chicks. They are the first to claim nests and doggedly brood and hatch them. Nothing gives me more enjoyment than watching my old girls with a brood of chicks following them...

Bantam hen with bloody discharge coming from vent?

Sounds like whatever the outcome she knows she is loved. I had a full size hen who had a much worse prolapse and who with the treatment plan your following and gently pushing the prolapse in and holding a few seconds several times a day she did recover. So keep hope and continue loving and...

flip flop shower shoes in public like they are actual shoes. They are for beach and public showers. And it causes another peeve the sloppysliding foot scraping walk that comes with them. or the flop flop of them hitting the heels if they are gripped with the toes instead of slide walking. I"m...

Why is chicken scratch more expensive than chicken feed?

That is what I was wanting but none of the places I went had that style they had some paddle things that would have been too much drag and throw grain everywhere. The But I got the 30 inch bulb auger and that works really well and hardly even have to stoop. I guess anything that does the job is...

Why is chicken scratch more expensive than chicken feed?

I was having that problem to so I drain better and add a "part" or two of dry cracked corn. I mix with a cordless drill with a bulb planting auger. So mix the dry stuff in and it keeps the mix dry enough they can eat it all. even on the breezy single digit mornings. They can stand the extra corn...

Chicken Myths/Rumors: True or False, Please Share!

I have one customer that is insistent that all his eggs be brown ones. I try to cater to him but it is kinda a groan at times. I don't simply because it seems rude and I think it would cause undue stress to those watching seeing hearing it happening. A restraunt in town offered "Roostered...

I think as best I can discern is that it primarily works to keep moisture off the comb so allows the comb to keep itself warm without the water draining the heat and allowing frost bite.

Why is chicken scratch more expensive than chicken feed?

When prices started getting crazy I switched to mixing a fermented wholegrain mix with soy bean meal as one part to 6 parts of grain to make up the protein and a half part of kelp meal to make up the trace minerals. And I also mix my own scratch when it makes sense to do so. You will find...

Comment by 'jsr5' in article 'Fermenting Chicken Feed: A Straightforward Method'

well he did mention the grain and other than good things in the grain but I"d imagine if you are keeping it wet enough as in submerged like was explained you will be fine. But it is your decision your birds are your responsibility and I"d not fault anyone for being cautious for their gals sake.

Do not he was specifying the pellet feed was a no go. not so much the grains so the scratch grains would be a really good option. Wonder if you could get fish any cheaper there they would love fish cooked or raw. That is a incredible price It went up to over 20 a bag here that is when I started...
