    Egg laying and Crop Question

Two questions, not sure if they are related. Question #1 My Easter Egger Flo had an illness a while back, up until that point she had started laying regularly. She had a collapsed egg and subsequently got sick. We treated her and she improved but shortly after she had crop problems which we...

    Is this Bumblefoot?

Regarding the vetericyn, do you spray and wrap it or just give it a good coating and send them on their way? @azygous @Lillith37 p.s. Definitely will go to vet before debriding on my own (for safety and the "gross factor")

    Is this Bumblefoot?

Okay. Great information. Thank you. I don't have any of the products mentioned above. I did put triple antibiotic ointment on it and wrapped it, then put her in the coop so she didn't get it all gross. I'll check in the am and will order the above mentioned products. Either I'll use them on...

    Is this Bumblefoot?

We just soaked it in epsom salt (I figured no harm in it). Afterward I took this picture. There does appear to be a little brown spot. Is that the beginning of bumble foot? It definitely does not look like her other foot. I included a video of her limp :( @azygous @NatJ

    Is this Bumblefoot?

I've been reading, and think it is likely bumblefoot. But if there is no scab, do I still treat it by soaking, making a cut, and draining?

    Is this Bumblefoot?

We noticed our Easter Egger, Flo limping a little. We looked at her feet but didn't see any black spots or obvious infection. She has continued to limp for over a week and today when we looked we did see that the right side appears swollen, but still no cut, or black spot. When we looked at...

    hemp/pine combo??

Any opinions on doing a mix of hemp and pine shavings? I'm just thinking I'd like to get deeper bedding but don't want to take on to cost of using only hemp. Thoughts?? I will try to get things as dry as I can before putting any new bedding in.

    hemp/pine combo??

My husband had mentioned drilling small holes in the floor to help things dry out more. Does that sound crazy? Right now things are very wet outside and Baltimore is typically pretty humid.

    hemp/pine combo??

It's a raised so coop so under the floor is part of their run.

    hemp/pine combo??

I was planning on adding more windows in the spring. I think we will make an effort to keep the main door open and add a hardware cloth "storm door". The floor is not treated wood. I now realize this was a big mistake! We are learning as we go and I wish I had learned this first! What would...

    hemp/pine combo??

I have a coop that usually stays very dry and has good ventilation. Lately we've had snow, rain and a lot of humidity. We do deep litter in the coop with pine shavings and usually can manage smell by maintaining a wet/dry balance. The floor of the coop is wood, which I only learned afterwards...

Collapsed egg hanging out of vent

Okay, great. Behavior looks pretty normal so I'll watch and stop worrying.

Collapsed egg hanging out of vent

Quick question: We've had snow and low temps. (at night as low as teens). I have not added any supplemental heat and everyone seems to be warm enough. I am noticing a lot of runny poops. Can this be from the cold and snow? Flo (the usual suspect) started molting a few weeks ago, so I've...

No eggs at all (is that normal)?

I have 4 cuckoo marans (roughly 8 1/2 months old). They had begun laying in the spring and we were getting 2-3 eggs a day from them. Over last 6 weeks to a month they have stopped laying all together. I know that when there is less sun light they lay less, but should they have stopped...

How to withdrawal eggs from one chicken...

If I need to withdrawal eggs from one chicken and not the others and I cannot tell her eggs apart, is there a way to alter the appearance of the egg to achieve this end??? One of my kids suggested food coloring in the vent which sounded ridiculous to me..... But maybe not???
