    Breeding class C seramas?

I've bred Seramas for the past 8 years now to the American standard. As another post pointed out, Seramas don't breed to true to size. In fact, when selecting good breeding bird size is one of the last considerations, type and temperament should always come before size. In my experience as...

I'm sorry to hear everyone has been having a bad past year with their birds. I can't believe people are getting desperate enough to steal roosters from people's backyeards. Thankfully mine are doing pretty good, I lost a pullet due to egg binding and my silver ginger breeder cock from 2019...

Has anyone silked a nonmolting longtail?

I remember seeing on one of the longtail groups on facebook that somebody several years back tried mixing Phoenix with Silkies to do it just out of curiosity but the tail never got very long because silkie feathering is too brittle. Also, non-molting birds are extremely difficult to come by, I...

    Rooster Beauty Contest (Weekly)

This is a dun bantam Phoenix cockerel I kept from last year's hatch. I'm hoping some more people will enter some longtails!

Sorry to hear all of the bad news, but you definitely have the right idea in getting some outside stock in the spring.

So how was everyone's 2020 breeding season (hopefully good since 2020 itself was a hot mess 😂)? I'm going to post some pictures of some more 2020 Phoenix bantam keepers, but in the meantime here is the 2020 cockerel I'm going to be keeping from my black line. He's about 8 months old now.

I'm not sure what colors they are, but the pullet almost reminds me of a BBR. And the gold possibly looks like he may have some ginger genes in him (which can explain the relatively solid gold coloring), but I'm not completely sure. I do think that they definitely have some unusual genetics in...

I'm not sure as I'm not that good with colors, but maybe if we saw the sides and backs of the birds it would be easier.

I could be wrong, but she looks like a golden to me, just a light one. Silver hens are usually a bit lighter (almost like a salmon color) in the chest area.

I honestly don't know if whites are accepted, I just know that they're not too uncommon. And give it a go!

To be fair, the color varieties the hatcheries offer are the standard colors accepted by the APA. What I have is a few of the non APA accepted colors that are still in refinement in Phoenix's.

Dun fibro pullet. She is the result of crossing a dun hen w/ a really well feathered silver ginger roo (which is why she's got a bit of silver leakage on her neck), but I'm really happy how she turned out! I'm going to use her to help improve the feather texture, length, and fullness in the dun...

So I was taking some pictures of my Phoenix bantams today and thought I'd share. These are for sure keepers of 2020 from the first batch I hatched. Blue Gold Cockerel. His mom was an extreme feathered silver ginger, so I'm hoping he has some of those extreme feathering genes as well! Blue Gold...

I'm not sure about sexing wildmarked chicks, but once the duckwing patterned chicks get to a few weeks old it's usually pretty easy to sex them due to their differing colorations. And the whites definately seem recessive. I remember reading somewhere that depending on the line, white Phoenix...

In about 2-3 years, I'll be creating a new Breed of chicken called the Emerald Dragon.(Discussion)

There are no hatcheries with them. Besides, if you want to breed seriously hatchery birds are typically best avoided because hatcheries breed for quantity, not quality.
