Training chicks with clicks??? I think this would so much fun. Would definitely help when I needed to call them! Think I'll get it! Let me know if you have the book.
Can chickens take Milk of Magnesia? What else can they take? My Little Man has been lethargic for a three days. I have him inside to watch and he has not pooped all day.
Hate that! I had some chicks that grew up to be roosters. They were really making a racket, so I gave them away. I got complaints because all of my neighbors loved them!! That really made my day. I did get one back - for my neighbors, of course, not for me. LOL. I really hate it when neighbors...
I love the Polish Hens. They love to be held. I have one, especially, that follows me around until I pick her up. I love my Silkies, also. I got these breeds specifically for their friendliness. They are not the greatest egg layers; however, the personalities make me smile every day!
Laws have evidently changed in Montgomery, AL

Maximum number of chicks depends on size of yard. I am allowed the max of six. Even though document says nothing about a permit, one is mandatory. Permit has to do with building and not actual...
Well, my post suddenly vanished! My coop will be 4x8 and built with left-over 3/4" plywood. Will use concrete piers with 2' 4x4's to left coop off ground. (1) I am thinking I do NOT need additional piers? (2) I have seen on some sites to run the 2x4 joists length wise (8') - it seems there...
I am building a coop 4X8 with left-over 3/4" plywood with cement piers at each corner and 2x4 joists. (1) Am thinking I do NOT need anymore piers and (2) thinking of running 4 foot joist instead of 8 foot. I have read to run the joist the long way (8 feet). That does not make sense to me. I...
Well, there goes my design! I live in SE Alabama. Has been in high 90's with lots of rain this year. High temperature + high humidity = change of plans! Thanks for all information. This will be an easy fix.
Thank you both for your ideas. It will be easy to cut through the metal. It has a strong frame work which will help. I am getting addicted to this website. Learning so much.
I have an 8X10 sturdy metal storage bldg that I will use for chicken coop. I will have area on on both sides (about 10X8) for runs. All will be predator secure. My nesting area will be at back wall. Roosts toward front. My question has to do with protection against too much heat. I plan to...
Well, it appears I am in good company! I have some experience in repairs and minor building (if I don't do it, it doesn't get done). But this "coop business" is new to me. AM 71 and most of my friends are traveling, etc. However, I am glued to this website and Story's Guide and having more...
