Sounds awesome! I think I will try hatching them so they hatch the day before christmas, that gives me some time to get everything together... Plus little quail chicks would be an awesome christmas present!!!
Thanks so much! I believe they will be living inside (We have a chicken coop, but only half of it is housing the chickens, the other half is where we store the feed, so I don't think we'll have to worry about that disease that quail can get from chickens). Is it cruel to keep them inside full...
I haven't posted on here in what seems like forever!
Anyways, I am currently looking into getting some coturnix quail- Preferably a trio/pair of goldens and a trio/pair of A & M or english whites. I was wondering what to feed them in the earlier stages of their lives and when they are mature...
Hey everyone! I feel like it's been forever since I've been on here!!!! I don't know if you remember me, I have a little d'anver quail hen named Olive who I do showmanship with and in 4-H. I recently got 2nd out of 14 children in my experienced senior class at the Northeastern Poultry Show, I am...
Wow, I haven't been on BYC for a while! I feel so guilty since I began this thread...
Those are some gorgeous birds! If you need to refer to what they should look like/the standard, I believe I have it copied to the first post.
Olive is beginning to lay again! I found an egg in her section, so I put out a bowl with some hay in it so she doesn't get pushed out of the "big girl" nest boxes!!!
I love my d'anver! She's a great little thing, and quite a stunning bird for showmanship. They're also very cold hardy and can withstand New England winters easily. They stay clean very easily, and have the cutest little squeals! They are also great for juniors because of their out-going...
Yep, I've been working with her and been feeding her some popcorn and she's coming around. I don't think she's ever been outdoors; I let her out into the run and she seems to be very interested in her surroundings.
On the other hand, Big Bertha (My new cochin) has settled in just fine and has...
Sorry that I'm cluttering up the d'anver thread with plymouth rocks however no one has replied to the rock thread on here... Oh and those were cell-phone pics, so not the best.
Yep, I talked to him and he said it was a color he was working on, and no, they are not in the APA. They are gorgeous though, and he entered some in the Northeastern Poultry congress. She is also a bantam. She was very scared yesterday because she was in a carrier for most of the day, but now...
No, I did not get any more d'anvers because all they had were quail at the sale and I wanted one that was a bit.. different. I got two spur of the moments... a red pyle plymouth rock (Who is gorgeous but will semi-attack you) and I won a pair of standard white cochins from the raffle, however I...
Congrats! I hope she keeps up the good work!
Went to the congress today, didn't get any d'anvers, but I did get a red pyle plymouth rock from Bob Murphy who is VICIOUS!!!! And I also won a pair of standard white cohins in the raffle that a friend entered. I sold the rooster, and kept the hen...
