I made an olive Egger bantam in my backyard by crossing one of my black tailed buff Japanese and a Blue Wheaton Easter Egger Bantam. She just started laying. :love
I’ve had the best luck with my chicks by having a brooder large enough to sit in so that way I can have treats in my hands and in my lap so they can come to me of their own volition. They can relax and explore while I sit there and observe. After a while they will often perch on my hands or my...
Had to do some digging, but this was my male partridge Cochin Bantam at that same age. Those dark mahogany feathers were a big telltale sign beside the early comb development. Hope this helps!
I’m back with some updates on my first round of crossbred bantams. Check these guys out at 3.5 months old! Both roos were Japanese, either buff or white.

I’ve got a very stubborn broody and a Roo who seems to be taking a break lately. She seems very determined to hatch something, so who am I to stop her!
Looking for 6+ eggs to be shipped to Kansas.
Open to all breeds and crosses and colors, but some I’m looking for: EE, MGB, Welsummer, OE...
Herbs and natural ingredients- I grow them use them in my coop/ nest bedding. Mostly the birds just have fun eating it.
Perfumes and chemicals- probably not the best idea, they only smell of lavender and probably contain no real esstential oil or actual benefit. They’d likely only irritate...
I’d think the dust would set off allergies or any accidental fecal contamination would cause more gastric issues. Sounds like normal kids bugs to me, especially at two. Could the dust be irritating her lungs on top of a cold? Could be likely depending on how much she is exposed.
40, dry, and...
I noticed in some of my pullet chicks are various breeds I could tell based on how they’re tails grew in as a good indicator. They were long but in a U shape with the middle feathers being the shortest and the outer feathers being longer. The males would be the reverse. Not true for every bird...
Sounds like they are cold if they are crowding together that hard. And sometimes babies die and get trampled after.
What breed of chicks are they? What is their heat source? Have they been healthy otherwise? And that box probably won’t last long as fast as chicks grow.
Chickens are high dander and high moisture input-output devices. ;)The more good air flow the better, so long as it’s not drafty where they sleep and they can stay warm in severe winters.
I also have roos with no crow collars and I collect my eggs daily, so far we have happy neighbors and yummy eggs that just happen to have little white bullseyes on the yolks. Extra convenient for when chick fever hits you too. ;)
