Is it possible for a pullet to NEVER lay an egg?

Thanks Bobbieschicks and Wendy for your updates! I have a 38 week old Buff Orp, she's a small size pullet - smaller than my two other buff orp pullets who have been laying since 26 and 28 weeks age. Anyway she finally laid her first tiny egg nearly 3 weeks ago - but since then there have been...

Is it just me? Have we lost a lot of members? Members posting differently?

Sorry, I used to visit this place multiple Xs per day, just to quickly read the recent posts and add a response wherever I could. I also used to post my own questions and share the sorrow when flock members died. Then, this new format arrives and it is just so cumbersome, heavy, and slow...

    I Miss Old BYC!!!

Yuck, this site is a big drag now. Running FF 9.0.1. Yet it's so choppy and so slow, that at first when I tried to go to BYC this a.m., I thought I had gotten some other website and been hijacked. Sad for me in the end, to see this *was* BYC after all. :( Crying. I probably could leave my...

How many eggs did you get in 2011?

5 hens (hatched late April 2009). One died Sept. 2011, so we had only 4 til the year-end. In 2011, all together, they laid a total of 672 eggs.

the poison in my life is gone, so why do i feel so guilty? long post *update now it goes to trial*

Give your love to those who can lovingly receive it, and let the rest go, in peace. Drama is bait. Once you are free from it, no one will be able, or tempted, to bait you again. I agree with the poster who said you can't love (or argue, or reason) anyone into being a functional human being...

Ewww! My first kill today. Am sick as a dog ever since. Any thoughts?

Quote: Wow! I wonder if that is a universal thing? In other words, I wonder if dogs in the UK or Europe don't touch meats that hung with guts, either? If they don't touch it, then I'd definitely worry about what is wrong with aging meat in that way. It would be nice to hear from someone in...

Ewww! My first kill today. Am sick as a dog ever since. Any thoughts?

Quote: Yeah! thanks again for sharing, and here's hoping that you will share your experience again, when you have tasted of it! Well, I think I will experiment in January, when I slaughter my rooster. Me gonna age him, European-style, for several days before plucking and gutting!! He will...

Ewww! My first kill today. Am sick as a dog ever since. Any thoughts?

Quote: Thanks for this info, b/c I love knowing how folks do things in other countries, besides here. So, if you leave the whole dead bird hanging outside for a day before plucking/gutting -- does it still need to age a few more days afterwards -- after being dressed, that is? I ask this...

Ewww! My first kill today. Am sick as a dog ever since. Any thoughts?

I know that feeling, 6-acre-zoo. I think stress and tension messes with digestion. After a particularly stressful or tense situation is over, I'll sometimes feel nauseous and like I'm going to barf.

    meat tough

Yes, thanks IHOP for the biochem class! I am the weirdo at the party who always wants to know all obscure science-y details possible. There's nothing too strange for me, especially if it's dot connecting. I just tortured myself 2 days ago, wondering how to tenderize 10 birds before freezing...

    Coop door latch advice needed

I have a sliding barrel bolt like yours, but it is larger and has a hole at the end where you can secure it with a padlock, or something. I don't want to hassle with a padlock, so each night I easily secure it with a dog leash clasp like this type...

Oregon, what breed was it? I love goose fat, btw. There's nothing like a stash of solid goose fat in the freezer, to get you through the year!

The horrible topic about the time to kill ?What about¿

Quote: Quijote, each person must decide, for himself or herself, how not to be on the dark side. For some, it requires deep philosophical searching inside. My experience was that I asked my own "inner guidance", and then I tried to listen and give myself lots of time to look around and...

The horrible topic about the time to kill ?What about¿

Quote: Quijote, you pose a good philosophical question. Yes everything alive has a purpose. But everything dies, too. Death is part of the circle. Would I rather not be born, just because I will die, one day? What if I knew that someone would take my life someday - would I still rather...

    Farmers Market questions

I am not in Nebraska. But I can tell you about FMs here. We like the weekend Saturday and Sunday markets, cuz it fits our schedule. They run between 9am - 2pm. What's important to us is "true pastured" for eggs and pastured non-CX meat etc. EGGS Most farmers in the market sell theirs for...

Try your WAPF chapter, to see if there are interested folks for your DP birds. That's Weston A. Price Foundation. Most people in our chapter are well aware of the advantages and will pay more for heritage vs. CX.
