Thank you. Should I just keep her housed with one roo? Or would that be too much for her since she's the only hen? If only housed together for breeding and seperating, how long should they be together? If we do both roos in turn will she use both males for fertilizing eggs? Sorry I'm completely...
Hello, I spent a bit to get some quality silkie chicks and ended up with 1 partridge hen and 4 roos(buff, blue, black, and partridge). I cant keep roos long term, but was thinking I'd breed them to try and get some more hens. The partridge roo and black roo have small beak issues so I'm thinking...
Hi all, haven't been on in a long while. I have a friend whose daughter is doing 4H and needs 2 youngish chicks that would be show quality. She needs to raise and show them. I don't have any experience with this, so I'm not sure where to point her. Anyone close to Tracy have anything??
I think I've seen you post about them. Are they friendly? Anyone you know of selling chicks right now? My kids really like picking up our girls. Our Australorp is great, and readily squats, but the others require treats and quick hands, lol.
Anyone have a source to find local (bay area or central valley) heritage breed chicks? Want something really friendly and sexed. American Orp calls my name, but I have heard Jersey Giant, Ameraucana, Wyandotte are docile and good layers. We have four hens now and just want two more. Currently...
Hoping for some help... Been reading other posts and getting information overload. I have one chicken that has had diarrhea for a couple weeks. It is like dark yellow mustard, very wet and smooth. We started treating with Corrid, but there hasn't been a change. Now it looks like a second chicken...
I usually do for at least an hour or two a day. It is better then because the bigs are distracted, but then I have to chase and catch the littles because they don't want to go back in with the meanies.
So, my babies have been in the coop with my bigger ones for a couple days. No injuries, but the big ones have scared the little ones so much they have started staying up on the roosting/nesting area of our a-frame coop, or huddled in a corner. We put food and water up there so they don't starve...
Thanks! We put them together later in the night and things were quiet. So far this morning they are doing okay, the littles running away when the bigs assert themselves and the bigs more interested in food. Praying it stays that way. Thanks for all the help.
The bigger ones are a red sex link and black australorp (she's the one who pecked) the little ones are both basque. Their size difference is pretty big.
Please help a newbie out! My two bigger chickens (5 months) have been getting to know our two younger (3 months) in the coop with a divider. I tried putting them up for the night together after the big ones went to bed, but as soon as I did the leader started pecking them and scared them out of...
Hi, I'm in Tracy and I've got a cute white silkie who just found his crow. Unfortunately that means I have to get rid of him.
Is there anyone in the area on here who would like a friendly roo? The feed store I got him from will re-home, but I would rather re-home myself.
As I see posts for ailing birds I am thinking I should have a medicine kit for my chickens for if they ever need it and some kind of guide or online resource that explains basic health issues. Does anyone recommend particular items and/or resources I should have at the ready? I only have four...
My Buff Orpington roo, that is getting re-homed today, was brought inside this morning to not bother my neighbors with crowing. Couple hours later I heard crowing again. I think my silkie thought he could finally crow since the dominant male wasn't around. So sad. Here's updated pictures. Still...
I took closer pictures of my BO. Don't have any crowing, but looks like a roo based on the pictures I've seen. Do you guys think there a chance it's a hen? She/he is twelve weeks. I need to replace if a roo, so I'm hoping to find out for sure as soon as possible.
Thanks for all the advise, lol @ the diapers! I guess I need to wait till I hear crowing again to figure out my mystery. Is it common for them to try it out, wait a few days before trying again?
And I'm just figuring out that my buff orpington might be a roo, so it's possible the crowing I heard was not my silkie.I hope she is a girl! My kids love her and my buff is the one that is not so friendly.
