    Feather picking strategy anyone ?

I just treated 5 days with corid for cocsi in my entire flock and just yesterday cut down to the mainteance dose of corid for another 7 days just to make sure. At the same time, i have an ongoing feather picking problem and its not just one flock member as everyone is effected. I have already...

56 Gallon waterer to prevent freezing in the winter

I am NOT sure they have worms. The bloody stools that i have seen along with diarrhea would most likely indicate cocci. I read a lot of stuff that claims DE will eradicate worms in your chickens. Is that just folk lore ?

56 Gallon waterer to prevent freezing in the winter

I shut down the 56 gallon waterer last night after they went to roost and hung 4 waterers with 10ml of corid in each one. Im also going to go to TSC and get some food grade DE and add it to their food and try and cover the cocci thing and worms at the same time.

thanks for the advise on corrid. But i dont know how to prove coccidiosis other than just treat for it. I was not aware that adult chickens got it until i started reading up on it. I go out to the house every day nd clean the poop boards with a reptile sand scoop and throw the poop over the...

56 Gallon waterer to prevent freezing in the winter

Update on something that never crossed my mind. I noticed one day the poop boards were about 3 times worse than normal. Below the roost boards are flat table like things that i keep filled with sweet PDZ. Its so bad that its killing the PDZ in about 2 days. They all appear to have diarrhea and...

56 Gallon waterer to prevent freezing in the winter

Thanks for the advise. Im going to wait and see what happens. if it indeed freezes from sitting on the ground, i can raise it off the ground. BUT i think if you raise it, it would freeze faster as now the cold air has access to the underside. Not unlike a bridge freezing before the roadway...

56 Gallon waterer to prevent freezing in the winter

OK, Im adding water to this thing every day just to keep it topped up during the non freezing weather. It appears that these 50 chickens in Kentucky summer are drinking about 7-10 gallons of water a day. I cant tell you how happy i am that i did this as i dont have to mess with cleaning and...

Great job ! Mine was not really a lot of wood sawing with a cordless small circular saw. My cuts were unmeasured and brutally guessed at. It was not really hard at all.

I had reef tanks for 15 years before i called it quits. the money you need to do big reef tanks right is CRAZY. $2k just in lighting was nothing abnormal. I have ZERO trust in any aquarium heater. I had a top line titanium tank heater go bad while i was gone out shopping and it killed every...
