Hi all!
Anyone have any recommendations for a breeder who will ship hatching eggs out of show quality stock?
I am looking to get some diversity in my BBS Orpington stock.
There used to be a bunch of people selling quality English Orpington hatching eggs on the Auction board on this site...
Definitely check your Fair show rules. It varies from county to county. At our fair, the only birds that are required to be sold are the winning market birds, that is, Cornish crosses and Pekin ducks.

Hi all,
I am in search of show quality BBS Orpington hatching eggs.
Incubator is ready to go, can take delivery any time (extreme weather permitting).
Message me with what you have!
Thanks in advance.
Hi all!
I have an otherwise absolutely beautiful Blue Orpington cockerel, which has developed white streaks on his earlobes.
Obviously this is a major fault, but I've never seen it before. Anyone have this happen to them? Any ideas where it comes from? Any thoughts on the likelihood of...
The prior poster is right. If you have to cull, a sharp pair of scissors to cut the head off is quickest and likely most humane for the chick, though often tough for the humans to stomach!
That said, the prior poster is also correct that you RARELY, if ever, have to cull a chick just for bent...
For brand new hatches, I normally just use a dot of food color on their chests or heads (depending on what color they are). Their little legs seem so fragile, I normally don't band until after a few weeks, when the food coloring starts to wear off.
I know lots of people who band at hatching...
Yes, fertilized eggs that have been refrigerated can be hatched.
Of course, it isn't ideal, and hatch rates can be SUBSTANTIALLY reduced, but it can happen.
I don't know WHY you would want to intentionally try to hatch refrigerated eggs absent special circumstances. I know some people try...
Don't worry-- you'll be fine! I don't have the Brinsea Octagon, but I do have the RCom King Suro, which is of similar size and shape.
The first time I had an almost full incubator go to hatch, I couldn't possibly imagine how the chicks could even get out, let alone move around and breathe in...
Obviously an automatic egg turner isn't going to cause late hatches, or wet and weak chicks. Sounds much more like a low temperature problem in the incubator. I understand the disappointment in a bad hatch, but it isn't going to help you to look towards the wrong source of the problem.
Sorry...
I think the concept is that you get the best of both worlds if you incubate shipped eggs without turning for the first three days.
You can let them set and be still for long enough that detached air cells stabilize, but they're not sitting around getting stale and losing fertility, since they...
I hatch both shipped and home laid eggs regularly. Of course you will have better luck with shipped eggs that are well-packed and have a shorter/easier trip than those that have had a rough ride, but I have found having an excellent incubator goes a REALLY long way towards success with shipped...
Absolutely beautiful Blue Laced Red Wyandotte Rooster for Sale! He was supposed to be a hen, and we've already selected the roosters we need for our flock right now.
He's 5 months old, and very sweet and quiet. He has a small flock of young pullets he takes good care of. He'd be a VERY flashy...
FREE Rhode Island Red rooster. 18 months old, and great to have around the yard or barn!
He's gentle with the hens and a terrific flock caretaker. Also docile and easy to handle-- just an awesome all-around guy! He's a handsome, healthy bird (though he does have a couple crooked toes).
PM me...
Well, far be it from me to discourage you from a big old cabinet incubator that can hatch armies of poultry, but the digital tabletop incubators do an equally good job, in my experience.
RCom and Brinsea have tabletop models with digital temperature and auto humidity controls. I have the RCom...
I've dealt with wry neck in several ducklings at this point. It's a pain to treat, but is completely curable as long as you're diligent about giving the vitamins.
Here's what I do:
1. Vitamin E gel cap: Cut the tip off the end, and squeeze one down its throat, morning and night.
2. Get a...
Without weighing in on the Navy question, I would be curious to know why she thinks she wouldn't get enough in scholarships and aid to graduate from a 4 year college without major debt?
There are all kinds of avenues for aid open to her, especially since she's a good student. Harvard may be...
