We are starting to raise netherland dwarf rabbits. Since they are being raised by our daughter with a disability, they will winter in the basement. The largest I can see the herd getting is a couple or three does and a buck.
I am torn between building wooden/wire hutches, and ordering all...
I have some pieces of welded wire with 2" X4" hole in it. I might be able to just tyrap the ends together to make a circle and fill it full of hay, so they can eat through the holes
Thank-you all for the ideas and pictures. I like the hay rack idea, a place to put the whole bale. I hadn't even thought about that. I was thinking about filling it daily.
I like the idea of the 20X20 pen. I will have to give that some thought. I was thinking green house hoops, wit...
Does anyone keep their geese inside for the winter? or inside, and letting them out sometimes? Does anyone have any good plans for a hay rack for geese?
Yes, I did a search first, but I didn't find what I was looking for. I am purchasing a trio of Pilgrim Geese in the spring. They will only be goslings. However, I want to make sure that I have all the things I need for them by the time they grow up.
I need to keep these geese confined. I...
I am working at learning to show silkies. I have been breeding them now for a few years, and have been studying and working, hatching and showing. I am looking for contact information for shorty polston, because I am hoping I might be able to learn about silkies from him. Does anyone know how...
Would a rabbit cage like this be suitable for keeping single males? or for a few quail? It is just that I see them advertised by people getting rid of rabbits for next to nothing ( 5- 15 $) I was thinking that they might work. If the plastic part broke, I would just build a plywood base the...
Well, I found a way to by the kindle book from amazon. It does have lots of information. I didn't see anything about housing the quail, no pictures of pens, or how to build them......... No mention of linebreeding, or selective breeding. It was worth the price I paid for it, but there sure...
Part of my reason for raising quail is to research line breeding. I have some charts, but then people say don't use charts, then there are some other plans, but I don't know how to know what works and what doesn't. I thought I could try some of them out with the quail, since they reproduce...
For feed choices locally, I can find: 30% game starter, 19% flight conditioner, and 20% layer/breeder.
The starter is recommended from 1-6 weeks. The layer is recommended to feed birds from 2 weeks before laying. I don't know what the flight conditioner is for., but it says 6-16 weeks...
Whatever I build for pens will have to be inside a building. We have this thing called "Canadian winter" where the temperature drops to about -25 to -40 Celsius and the snow builds up to about 3-4 feet deep. This lasts from November to March.
Therefore the breeders will be living inside for...
I found some plans that look pretty good and pretty easy to build.

Thanks a lot for the threads with the pictures and the info of the bedding type. I live in Canada, so I was wondering how much cold quail can take? or maybe a better question would be what temperature would you say that they need to be kept at?
Does anyone use nest boxes for their breeders...
Thank-you very much, I know that there are lots of Beginner quail threads, but I couldn't find the answer about switching males, or keeping them on solid floors. Does straw or sawdust make better bedding?
As far as housing goes, My goals are simply to keep them as egg layers and small...
