I have a pair of Rio Grande turkeys. They free range all day with the chickens and guineas. Everything goes to the barn to roost at night. We are far from roads or other neighbors and have lots of places for a hen to hide. I have never noticed my hen missing for very long. She normally hangs in...
Help, please? I have an old hen about 6-7 years old that walks like this. I think it's getting worse and she stepping higher. Can someone tell me what causes this? She hangs in a small flock, so she doesn't have to travel far
.
Her face doesn't stink. It was just her abdomen area. She could have laid down in something stinky, but she looked very clean. The small weepy area looked like a rub, but it wasn't red and there was no blood. Just looked like she'd rubbed her feathers there from roosting??
No discharge anywhere, and her butt is clean. She is talking to me a lot more. Friday I was calling a bull into the pens, and it was pretty loud, and she was barking like crazy, responding to me. I'll try to add a photo. Our internet connection is slow. We can't get it fixed until tomorrow.
Today, my 8-month-old hen was laying down in the horse pens. Just seemed to be sunning or dusting like the chickens do. However, she didn't move and let me stroke her. This is highly unusual for her. She is very smart, but will normally only take food out of my hand. She's always been too...
I have a broody French Maran hen. She just went broody a couple of days ago. I do not want to hatch the chickens. I have 12 wild turkey eggs I got on Ebay, and 10 guinea eggs. Both incubators are set up and running. I need to make a decision. My hatch rate with guineas is not great. I've read...
I just bought 12 wild turkey eggs on ebay. They are settling now. Just came yesterday. I've had the incubator running for 2 days. I also have a broody chicken hen. Would it be best to put the eggs under a hen? Or try incubating them? I've heard they are really difficult to hatch. I've read a lot...
I had a chicken hen setting guinea eggs. I got the eggs as soon as she went broody, as my chickens have done a good job raising guineas so far. At day 11, the hen left t he nest. I was getting ready to move her box into a pen because another hen was going in there laying, and I didn't want the...
I don't know about the person that has a bird not drinking. I didn't give advice on one that's not drinking. I only posted what worked for me. Yes, people are entitled to their opinions. I never said they weren't. There's no reason to be ill-mannered or mean spirited and call their suggestion or...
Good information, Kathy. By the way, I used about 1/3 large jar in the water, which is probably how it reached kidney's/liver and not just the digestive tract with the grain. I also used it grain.
Oh, and another thing, cayenne obviously worked for the individual who originally posted the remedy on the internet. I followed that person's advice and put A LOT of cayenne in the water.
You sure are an ill-mannered, sour, rude individual. I posted WHAT WORKED FOR ME, AND MY TURKEY. Wow, thanks for the reminding me not to post any suggestions or helpful advise on this forum in the future. Chicken keeping sure does make for some ill individuals. Here's a tidbit for ya. What works...
Thank you. When I posted, I had forgotten that I tried hatching guineas under two very good momma hens and it didn't work. The hens were very broody and attached to the eggs, but some of them pipped and dried out. One hen hatched 6, and two were dead in the nest like she accidentally crushed...
My guinea hen has a well hidden nest in some brush along a fence. She has been setting for at least 3 weeks, so I know she's getting close. I have no idea how many eggs, as I didn't want to flush her from the nest. Today is the first time I've seen where she went. I had a feeling she was broody...
