Does anyone know where i can get free chickens in sumter?

The only free poultry I've ever seen offered are excess Roosters, maybe that's different in other areas but I doubt it.

    Pekin Duck Club!

Thanks :-) don't give me too much praise yet though, I still have to convince husband that keeping a group of 'useless' boys is a reasonable idea... which will be especially hard since he's been reading up of poultry processing recently :-/

    Pekin Duck Club!

Hi, this is my first post in this thread. We hatched some Pekins this spring, they are almost 4 months old now and I'm starting to see a tail curl developing in some of them, it looks like I've for 4 males and 3 females. My plan was to keep one male and all the females but I'm already...

Long time chicken keeper, first time adding a Roo. Questions.

Thanks for the replies :-) Especially that genetics explanation Ridgerunner! I guess I'll find out in a few months what he might be hiding, the other Pekins from the hatch were a barred roo and a blue roo, they were re-homed before I decided to keep a boy which is a shame in hindsight, it sounds...

Neighbor hates my chickens- will she do them harm?

I have just ready this entire thread! Thank you for an evenings entertainment. It seems your in a much better place now both in dealing with Crazy Lady and processing your grief for your parents. Slowly seeing other stories creep into your posts and eventually overtake 'the crazy' was lovely...

Long time chicken keeper, first time adding a Roo. Questions.

I've kept hens for several years now, purchasing and incubating fertile eggs every few years to replenish the flock. Thanks to discovering the collar trick this year I'm finally keeping a roo. Rocket is a 4 month old Black Pekin Bantam (I'm in Australia, I think he's similar to a Cochin Bantam...

Help Sexing 12 week old GLW please

Thanks everyone :-) donrae I've been lucky this year, 5 out of 7 roos have found actual (not for the pot) homes! One even went off to be an educational roo in travelling farm (school program, not a baby farm). The last couple are going to the Bird of Prey rehab centre. They will be used to...

Help Sexing 12 week old GLW please

I'm dropping some roo's off at the local Bird of Prey Rehab Centre this week but I'm still not 100% sure if this one is a boy or girl. I posted pic's of this bird a few weeks ago and got mixed responses, hopefully it's a bit clearer now? Thanks :-)

    Sexing 9 week old polish.

Thanks Everyone, it looks like there is a consensus on 'smooth white' so I'll start looking for a home for him. I'll post update pics on the others in a few weeks :-)

    Sexing 9 week old polish.

I posted them in a polish thread but didn't get any responses, hoping it'll be seen here instead. Anyone care to guess at these? I know polish are hard. They two months old now. Sorry about the potato quality pics, had to go visit the coop in the dark to get closeups. TIA Smooth White - Boy...

    Polish sexing

Anyone care to guess at these? About 9 weeks old now. Sorry about the potato quality pics, had to go visit the coop in the dark to get closeups. Smooth White - Boy? Frizzle Laced - ? Doesn't act like a boy, very pointy head feathers though White Head - ? Smaller than the others but...

    Bramah and GLW boys?

Thanks everyone, just wanted to be sure before I try to re-home them. I'll advertise the Cochin and give the GLW another couple of weeks just incase. Thanks for clearing up the breed on the buff for me too.

    Bramah and GLW boys?

These guys are about 7 weeks old now. I only got one of each breed so I don't have anything to compare them with but I'm thinking both are boys. Am I right?

    Bantam or runt?

I guess time will tell, one of the large ones is also frizzled which was never mentioned when I bought the eggs, I'm beginning to think she'd just a bit fast and loose with her descriptions.

    Bantam or runt?

Any idea what it might be? Here is a better pic of it with the other 'runt'.

    Bantam or runt?

These chicks are 5 weeks old. They were hatched from a batch of eggs I bought as "Polish Bantam", all the eggs were small and white. I'm wondering though if there was a mix of bantam and full size genes in the mix? Is that even possible of do I just have a couple of runts? I have two chicks the...

Sexing Salmon Faverolles at 2 weeks? *4 week pics added*

Ok, we've hit 4 weeks and I think we've got two girls! Both have white chest feathers and nothing particularly dark on their back.

    What breed is this girl

I'm definitely not an expert but her colours look a lot like a Silver Grey Dorking. They are very 'in' in my local area at the moment, people are paying a fortune for them.

4 week old Bramah, clear liquid coming from mouth.

Just wanted to say thanks fro your advice. I got some Coccivet yesterday (all I could find locally that was similar to the product you mentioned) and after 24 hours o treatment the sad chick is much happier. I wouldn't have guess it without your help since it didn't have bloody stools.
