Hey there! Was on here a lot a few years back finding breeders and researching, and then took a long break. Now I'm back since I finished working on my line. I am getting some good color on my eggs! Love my marans!
Bc of their thick shells Marans hatch out at very high humidity (I mention above I haven't hatched out chicks but I mean from this line, I have hatched out quite a few from previous lines)
Hoping the pic comes up.
Anyway showed my blue hen at a small show yesterday (yes I realize it's not a Recognized color, just getting experience). So the judge gave me a lot of "advice" as I was the only one in that class to show so she had the time to "critique" her ("" bc I'm trying to be...
Hi from So Cal! Been breeding blue and splash for 4 years now and finally have some good conformation. My current roo is from Brian Parks. On the hunt for a black roo to improve egg color. Hatching eggs or cockerel might work too. Anyone have anything?
Hi there, long time stalker occasional poster. My name is Heather and I am in northern San Diego. We live on 3 acres and I have had chickens for almost 3 years now. I mostly have and breed Marans but there's a WA and a couple CLs, and mutts in there, too :)
my very sweet splash roo just died...
GF farms has them for $2k/pair now. How has the price dropped that much in only a couple months?
I just brought home two "accidental chicks" Cemani/Croad Langshan. excited to see what color eggs I get :)
I did! I spent most of the time chatting with Dana as I was buying her gorgeous splash Marans roo and her wheaten ameracauna. Between that and wrangling my twins and the heat we were in and out pretty fast!! Sorry I wasn't more social, I was determined to offload my Roos (no luck) except I...
I'm excited to finally meet u all tomorrow :) I'm bringing my OE cockerel and Silkie roo both of whom need a new home ;)...and hoping to pick up a couple more hens! see u there!
thank you!! see that's why I was confused! Only pea comb hen I have is a SLW. The pics I gave u were kinda deceiving...they didn't have a pea comb...it just looked like that until u saw it from a different angle. But it was like nothing I have ever seen before, maybe just deformaties??...oh well...
thanks!! I got fertile eggs from Dana in Ramona! She's on here...she's from Indigo Ridge Farms. I am getting a Splash roo from her tomorrow from a different strain than my BCM is apparently from.
thanks all! so sorry, It took a while to hear back from anyone on here so I went to the breeder who sold me the eggs and got her opinion. Since this post I gave away #1 and #2. #3 is turning out to be a gorgeous boy and is really timid, so as of now I'm keeping him. Picking up a Splash roo at...
I bought fertile eggs a year ago from a BYC member with good stock. Might not be to show standards but I'm not needing that for my purposes anyway. I hatched a BCM roo and 5 hens. My roo was killed by something that jumped our high fence in broad daylight. anyway I saved all fertile eggs I had...

My beloved "Marshmallow" that I bought to be my broody has started crowing :( At 9 months old, he's a fluffy adorable nugget. I nursed him back from cocci and pasty butt. He's a fighter! Has been pampered and well fed with organic feed and probiotic-rich kefir...
Sooo I can't wait a few days for my bator to perfect or buy another hygrometer bc my fertile eggs have already been sitting around for 7 days (I know I've heard they can be viable for 21 days but I'm not willing to risk it!) so...
I turned the bator on for a couple hours with wooden eggs, put...
