i ended up with a nice pair of the blue orps too...the roo is HUGE and still an adolescent yet. He is already bigger than the RIR roo i already had.
Thanks zookeeper...i have been a doc for almost 10 years now.
its great to be back . I will try and be a little more present here. Time, time , time though. Who knew being a doc would be so hard on one's free time LOL
predator problem never really got resolved...i never figured out what the animal was although im pretty sure it was either a weasel/stoat/mink or fischer cat. Either way i reinforced my already alcatraz looking coop/run and no problems since then.
Does anyone have a link back to that vent...
Hey everyone...im busy as always with work and stuff, wanted to let everyone know im still kicking. Birds are doing great...getting more eggs than i need !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cynthia's ameraucanas are laying the green eggs now which is cool...ducks are laying too.
I will check back later,
Aran
mate i dont think i started the vent thread but it was so darn funny! I have just let the girls and boys out for the morning...they are all doing great...sorry I havent been around much...busy as always.
My birds are all just in the coop at night without any heat at all. Its a pain in the butt having to go out and refill their water 3 times daily because of the freeze but with the ducks who like to throw the water everywhere and tip the darn water containers ( 5gallon steel) over I am worried...
nope and nope. Never have seen the beast again although I set traps for weeks. We reinforced the inside of the chainlink run and have a tight wire door around the entry gate into the run. In addition I lock the birds away at night each day...no further casualties.
Our rouens cannot fly although...
they are all doing fabulously...I am such a slacker not getting pictures taken...Im sorry I will get my act together i promise! The little silver one is my favourite of all of them!
Well I just let 5 young uns in with the main flock. They are (I think..cant really remember LOL) 8weeks old and are fully feathered. They are 1 female rouen duck, 2 australorp pullets, 1 light brahma pullet and 1 RIR pullet. They are doing well...eating and drinking, not getting TOO picked on...
thank god i have not had to cull a bird in terms of killing one but I have culled in terms of thinning the flock by selling or giving birds away. In fact I envisage doing it again in the spring to make room for new breeds. I would like to think that unless we are planning on eating the birds...
nice job mate...i spent a weekend making really nice hang on the outside of the coop nesting boxes at a good height for my boy to be able to get at the eggs and not ONE OF THE darn CHICKENS WILL LAY IN THERE! They happily lay in the middle of the coop floor, on the ground under the coop, in the...
