I was looking at ways to discourage my flock from roosting in my rafters (instead of their roosting bar) and pooping ALL of the floor, your pictures came up. Great idea with the mesh fencing on the rafters. Thanks for sharing😃
Thanks for the info/differences you've seen @DonyaQuick . I'm no expert, I was just wanting to mention the issue with colors (mites change colors due to blood supply) because someone had said not to worry chicken mites are red😉. I wish them luck eradicating whateber it is. ALL mites make me itch...
Remember *Northern Fowl Mites and Red Roost Mites are clear/off-white/white UNTIL they feed, and then they become brownish red. On the outside of the coop only probably a wood mite. If you haven't done so already, I would definitely check in the coop and on the chickens in the dark to see if...
Yes any updates? I'm battling them right now or something very similar. I had a chicken accidentally stepped on by my horse, (she's ok) brought her inside to recover and watch over her. The next day or so when I went to clean the playpen and get her I had some crawling on me!!🤯😝 I used some...
Mites. Time to buy and to clean the birds and coop using Elector PSP. That or Permectrin 2. We are going through this currently, it's such a pain. Mine were brought in from a bird nesting in their coop🤦🏼♀️😞Good luck!!
@picklestheduck - Just because I haven't seen it mentioned yet and you said you had barn cats, please be careful while spraying the coop *if using Permethrin*. While permethrin is frequently used as an insecticide and is safe around many animals, it is highly toxic to cats!! Once the product...
I've had them for 2- 2 1/2 weeks, honestly I get selling chickens as "straight run", but don't list them as pullets if you really dont know lol. I wanted a Cockerel, let's just hope he's the only one ;)
Supposedly 8-9 weeks born end of Aug, but honestly don't know. The person I got them from wasnt really honest from the get-go..most are mixes & one was sick so I guess I'm not sure how old they are really lol
Ive had 2 die recently for Cocci so Im sorrry for the loss especially the feeling of wishing you couldve helped more :'(. Now Im so paranoid about the rest of their hatch mates (even though they are also on the water with Corrid)....one of them seems smaller than the others. I guess all i can...
Treat the whole flocks drinking water with the Corid regardless if they all show signs once Cocci is suspected. (It wont hurt them giving healthy ones a dose during a "just in case" time). Good Luck =)
By the way here are some pics of my gals as chicks...the neighbors dog broke thru the fence that layed against their original coop area and our house. so temporarily the chicks were moved into the garage I would visit everyday and nite and sit on the garage floor and up they'd climb on top of...
x 2! Thanks for your replies. Yes we woke up to snow on the ground today, only part of their run is covered so they saw "fluffy white stuff" for the first time this morning. They BOK BOK'd at me from their door stepped outside and went right back in brrr. To think we didn't even get alot in...
Well Hello fellow Coloradan' thanks again for your reply! I kinda knew she was a she....totally a bossy women attitude, probably got it from someone close.... That's what I am hoping for (that its just attention) So do you think paying more attention to her will make her better or worse? This is...
Thank thank thank YOU for the replies ! Chicken little is in "my" fact a hen...although not laying yet, doesnt show cockerel feather/body charecteristics...at least yet and shes 6mo and the last hen I had turn cock had laready shown signs way by now, So, I believe she is a hen but I have been...
