Hi
In the last few months I've lost three of my red sexlinks. Had the last two autopsied.
Peritonitis is the diagnosis on one and bacterial infection and low grade ecoli found on the other (same symptoms before death) and they are doing further cultures to try to find out more.
I was originally...
I have lost three 2yr old red sexlinks in the last few months. Two in the last week!
Symptoms before death were significant feather loss on the underside, tail feather broken and brittle. Red rash on skin around vent and underside.
Filthy feathers, not grooming
Thin
A lot of thin shells lately...
I have two yr olds and one year olds, flock of 15.
A few of them have lost feathers and have bright red skin, mostly in the butt and back area.
I've checked and dusted for mites (they had them a few months ago, but I've not seen them since dusting.)
I can't seem to find anything on this...
I am using a heat lamp but I didn't put a thermometer in and I had the heat lamp too high.
I have since put a thermometer in and it's currently 93 but some of them are spreading their wings out, which I thought meant they were too warm?
Ugh. I feel so bad :-(
Any advice??
Baby got smothered, I have 20 new chicks, and they sleep in a pile for some reason.
We found this one at the bottom this morning, not moving and limp.
She is breathing, but is there anything I can do???
Please help if you can!
Thanks
:(
I think she's going to make it!! As long as I can keep the wound from getting infected, she just might be ok....
Whew! I was so worried for her all night....
Hey all,
So you know those ostrich feather dusters? I read somewhere that they are great to put in your brooder for the baby chicks to hide under.
Last year I got some for my chicks and it was great, they loved them!
So this year, I used them again, put them in the little cage our four day old...
Just noticed one of our 2 yr old red sexlinks wheezing-just started.
she also has a terrible red skin issue- rash? or? I'm at a loss here!
HELP!
**The red skin is brighter than the photos show- I have a couple of girls with missing feathers and this awful red skin
!
Due to this long cold winter, the flock didn't get their health and wellness checks as often as they should have... :/
I have 15, 9 are red sexlinks, and they are the ones affected by this weird red skin
It looks just awful!
Everyone has mites.. But just a few of the reds have the red skin...
Yes, his comb fell off, as seen in the photo, it healed after I treated it with antibiotic ointment, and it's been a couple of months at least.
His weight seemed ok, and he seemed normal about an hour before we found him lying in the coop run.his comb, fave and wattle turned a dark purple after...
Our speckled Sussex rooster 1 yr old, just suddenly died. No reason that we could tell. :(
We noticed this morning that he had dried blood on his comb.
We have never seen him fight with our other rooster, so I can't think of what could cause this. Over the winter he lost most of his comb from...
My roosters have frostbite on combs and wattles!
Can I use neosporin/polysporin and aquaphor?
Is there anything else?
Can I keep them in the coop or do they have to be isolated?
Any advice appreciated.
:-(
We've had our pekin ducks, Harry and Sally since May (they were young, maybe 2 months old when we got them).
They have been cohabiting with our laying hens fairly well, although my male duck will NOT leave the hens alone and both ducks are really bossy with the hens.
They do go into the coop...
Just wanted to say thank you to everyone helping me out with advice about my little chicken with the impacted crop.
I named her Hope after this ordeal.
She is fine! She made it through nearly starving to death!
It took much longer to get her well, but honestly after everything I tried, the yeast...
