    New Emu mom!

Thank you everyone! So far, he’s doing well. I have him on mushed kale, scrambled eggs, mealworms and a mix of emu starter grain and chick starter. He’s growing and so darn cute. I have attached a photo of his inside pen which gives him plenty of room to move and then we go outside to run in the...

Hi everyone! I’ve owned ducks and chickens and goats and a pot belly pig but FINALLY got my first Emu yesterday. There weren’t two available unfortunately, so I’m raising him inside right with with 4 baby chicken friends. He is with us a lot as well. He is two weeks old and although I’ve done a...

So I was posting in egg countdown, but thought I should start a new thread since I am up to 5 eggs now in the first week! Yahoo! So not really counting down anymore but looking excitedly in every day to find a new little egg. But, I am now trying to figure out who it is of the 5! I have...

    First Egg Countdown

Well, I got an egg on the 2nd day as well! But, I have a question....here are the two different eggs in comparison to my palm. The egg on the 2nd day was SIGNIFICANTLY larger. Is it two different hens laying or can it really be that much bigger overnight? Thanks for your help! It is so much...

    First Egg Countdown

No more counting down for me!!! Yaaaaaay! I was screaming like a moron and the chickens looked at me like I was crazy. Out of the 5 bantams, I don't know which one laid but it was just outside the nesting box. It is just a teeny tiny thing. So cute. Happy Day!

    First Egg Countdown

The waiting is soooo difficult! I have 7 chickens- 2 bantam roosters, 3 bantam girls and 2 mille fleurs. 1 of the bantams and the 2 fleurs were just added one week ago. They are a little older, or so I was told, and I added them because the straight run 4 that I raised since they were a couple...

Adding new chickens to my flock today

Well I went for two, and came home with three hens! Two Mille Fleurs and one red bantam. Right now I have them in a kennel near the others so everyone can see each other! The roosters are quite interested. We will see how it goes once I let everyone interact. Thanks for the tips!

Adding new chickens to my flock today

It is addicting! I can't wait for 12:30 today when I can pick them up. I will get ones around the same age, thanks for the suggestion. Do I leave them in the dog crate inside the run as well as inside the coop or should I just put them in the dog crate in the coop and let them free range with...

Under what circumstances can two roosters share a coop w/ same flock?

I think if they are raised together, it is possible. I have two hens and two roosters that were raised together from a few days old. I am adding a couple more hens because people recommended this since it would be too hard on the girls with two roosters. They are 16 weeks old. So, from what I...

Adding new chickens to my flock today

Hi! I am new to this and pretty nervous about adding two new hens to my flock that I am picking up today. I know to quarantine, etc so it isn't the disease possibility that worries me, it is the risk of injury, I am adding new hens because my straight run of Bantams ended up being two roosters...

Adding two hens to my flock

I am new to the chicken world and have learned a lot over the past few months. Everything has been going well and we are having a lot of fun waiting for our first eggs! However, after getting some advice here, I realize I probably need to add a couple more hens to the group. I got my four...

    Chickens and goats?

I have two fainting goats and 4 bantam chickens. I have the coop just outside of the goat pen just in case an issue develops, but everyday the chickens go inside the goats pen to play, scratch, eat, etc. They all get along great and I haven't had any issues. The chickens are pretty quick to...

Fertile vs. unfertile eggs- how will I be able to tell?

Thank you for all of the information and responses! Very helpful. When we got them, I just went for the straight run hoping I would get one rooster and three hens...surprise when I heard two crow at the same time one morning! So, if I add a few more hens, how can I do so safely as I know...

Fertile vs. unfertile eggs- how will I be able to tell?

I have 4, feather footed bantams. 2 ended up being roosters and 2 are hens. They are 15 weeks old so I still have a bit before the girls start laying. I have a couple of questions while waiting anxiously for them to start! I was told that since the four grew up together, I should be ok...
