Problem w/Pullet-Shut Automatic Chicken Door *Update* Problem no more!

Had an issue with my silkie coop Pullet-Shut door intermittently not closing or opening all the way. I contacted the guys at the company and they sent out a new control board right away after helping me troubleshoot it. The new board did not help and they sent me out a new motor which solved...

    Homemade Incubators

Yep...but I can remove the glass container lids to add humidity....works well by adjusting how much surface area is exposed as to how much humidity there is....Building a new one this fall and winter from a dual door mini fridge/cooler...going to make it the deluxe model with everything...

    Rain water for chickens?

I have used my system for over a year now and love it. I used 2 small mesh screens for large debris and add ACV every week or so. I have since modified it since the pics were taken and have the nipples under the raised coop now. Works great with a major cleaning once a year and I rinsed the...

    Rain water for chickens?

I have used my rain-water collection system for over a year now and no problems at all. I have several couplers and valves in it for draining and cleaning once a year(I do clean the gutter every week). I use 2 small mesh screens for debri and ACV every week or 2. I have since modified it...

    Homemade Incubators

I believe they are to act as a heat sink to keep heat fluctuations more stable and on my homemade incubators I lift the lid off one more of them to add humidity for lockdown or ? I have 3 glass ones in the bottom of mine and they work great. I use tubes at the top of my incubator to refill...

    Homemade Incubators

I made this with a 225 watt Incukit from Incubator Warehouse and some stuff I had around the garage and alot of spare time...lol It has worked really well so far and I am working on a double front door model that I am going to have more of a control panel type of operation with switches to...

    Big enough for 4-5 Chickens?

I did but I kept finding broken eggs on the floor of it and I thought if I put the bars back in it would protect the eggs. I was wrong. I only find 1 or 2 eggs a week there so I think one of my newer hens is breaking her own eggs. First time for me on something like this. I find 5 or 6...

    Big enough for 4-5 Chickens?

The back door is kinda awkward but I have not changed it.....yet...lol It is kinda hard to see in the pictures but there is a complete roof over my run so no weather or moisture gets on the coop itself so in theory it should last a long time. The wood is thin on my unit also and my addition...

    Big enough for 4-5 Chickens?

Sorry took pic at night so kinda dark but I think you get the idea of what I did. It is the same coop as the one the girls are in front of but I just took roof off and added to the top and removed the right side nest boxes and have a poop board there now. There are 2 roosting bars in it now...

    Big enough for 4-5 Chickens?

You can add on very easily to the prefab....But as some other members have said it would be easier to add on to the run first and give them more room to roam and then add on to the coop next....As I mentioned earlier in my post some of your birds will for sleep in the nest boxes which is bad...

    Big enough for 4-5 Chickens?

I think if you just had the coop for them to sleep in they would be fine but if you tried to keep them in that run/coop arrangement it is way to small for more than a couple of chickens. To be honest I did not no any better when I got my chickens and I have a half dozen in a prefab coop that I...

    Is water treatment necessary?

I agree with HEchicken that mine would rather drink out of the nastiest mud puddle than anything I can provide for em.....I do what I can on keeping the water as fresh and clean as possible and let them choose what they want to drink. I free-range mine during the day and provide (5) different...

    Question for sand proponents

I love sand....Have it both of my coops and runs....I agree with 4 The Birds, just rake or sift it out and add to it if needed.....No organic compounds in sand that rots so it should not go "bad"....Maybe they meant adding to and not replacing.......

    Rainwater good or not ?

Just added a mini one to my silkie coop.....Works so far, although they have plenty of other places to get water while free-ranging all day in the yard. Nice to know that if I keep em in the coop/run they have water and feed available or if I am collecting eggs for hatching and not letting them...
