    Pekin Duck Club!

Still going to have her checked out just in case. My other ducks never ate so many that they rattled. Rather unnerving. It would be nice if they do break down over time but want to make sure she is not in danger until they do.

    The Duck Thread

Got a weird question. I know ducks use gravel in their crop to break down food but our Daphne duck seems to have eaten actual rocks. You pet her in that area and you can hear crunching like rocks. Has anyone ever dealt with this before? I work for a vet and am going to take her into work...

    Pekin Duck Club!

This sounds like me and my neighbor. I do duck rescue and she raises for meat. We've agreed to disagree since our kids are best friends.

I have 5 mallard ducklings that are in need of a home. Rescued them when just hatched at El Cajon City Hall and their mama abandoned them. They are doing great but that would bring my duck count up to 12. Can't release them again because they are imprinted on people. Also, have 3 easter...

    Pekin Duck Club!

I would train them the same way we train dogs. Start with baby steps. Make a small ramp elsewhere and put treats at both ends to get them to use it. Once they are comfortable get them to do it by their house. You may need an extra person for that third and fourth arm for a bit. They will...

Those pictures are wonderful! I wish I had a pond like that. I have the property for it but the climate is too dry to make it worth while. Mine just use kiddie pools that we can dump to prevent mosquito larvae near the house. Your birds look like they were having a great time!

    Pekin Duck Club!

Saw a lot of posts about nervous ducks vs imprinted. One of our main boys is Donald who imprinted to us. Most of my other ducks aren't imprinted. However, thanks to Donald, they eventually let us approach them. It takes a long time but when they see us interacting with Donald and the other ducks...

What does he sound like? My boys make short quick noises while the girls chatter more and sometimes sound like they are laughing.

I'm sorry to hear that, Deb. We've been hit by financial issues a time or two ourselves just this year already. We find ourselves lucky to have the chickens and ducks because we can sell the eggs and some birds for some extra cash. I hope you get the same kind of good luck (not my bad)...

My friend and I got eggs from Indigo Ridge to hatch in our kids' classrooms. In mine I used my incubator while the other they used the teachers. Sadly, my incubator is now in the trash. Out of all the eggs that I got only one hatched that survived. Since the other clutch almost all hatched...

Your Seramas are adorable! I don't know anything about the breed, are they bantams? We have Bearded D'Anver's that we originally got to show via 4H but then Scouts got in the way.

Rosanne Brown of Rancho San Diego Animal Hospital not only sees chickens but she loves them and is a chicken owner herself. They have other great vets but for chickens you want her. Edit: I assumed just chickens. Janet Loken saw my ducks and she's fantastic, too. Used to work there so can...

Female Pekin become agressive to pregnant owner??

Ours have gone through a period of not wanting attention when they previously had and it was when they were molting. May be acting out from you being gone. Give them time and goodies. They will come around.

Pretty girls. My dogs try to chase the ducks too so I keep them away. Except for my golden that plays tag with them. In that case it is a game for everyone.
