I have 2 white and 1 black silkie roosters. Free to a good home. 5 months old. Comes when you call them. They'll follow me around the yard. Pick up only. I'm located in north central Alabama.

It did take them some time to get used to the ramp - there was a period of time that they still preferred to huddle. But now they are roosting like everyone else - although you can see they do it at the very top of the ladder on the edge of the manure box instead of on one of the...
It's a good night when at chicken round up time, I scoop them up and they stay in the coop.
It's a really good night when at chicken round up time, I scoop them up, they fall back out, but they use the ramp to get back inside.
It will be an awesome night when I don't have to play chicken...
ahhh maybe it's because they had older chickens or other breeds to learn from. The only chickens I have are 2-3 month old silkies. Maybe if I get another breed or older experienced chicken in there, they can learn.
My free range hen layed her eggs in the dog's house instead of the coop. But she was a silkie, and apparently they like being on the ground. Did you try putting a golf ball in the nesting box to remind them what it's there for?
Since ramps aren't silkie friendly, what other bantam breeds use the ramp to go into the coop with ease? Every night I watch my 3 month old bearded silkie fall out of the coop. I guess he/she doen't see the hole in the floor leading to the exit ramp.
From table scraps to raw veggies, is there a list floating around of what not to feed chickens? Like what is toxic or causes the runs?
also, I know my chickens love watermelon, but what else do they love?
I know a heat source is suppose to be used until they feather out completely. But, I'm not sure if they have all their adult feathers are not. My 5 younger ones were hatched around Oct. 17th. The heat lamp is just a 100 wt bulb. It's a drafty coop and it just keeps things about 15 degrees...
They are silkies. Is that a bad thing?
I did sprinkle feed down the ramp with a pile at the top. Are there other treats that would really get them movin?
Because I got a new tractor type coop for Christmas today, I can't reach the ramp anymore, thus I wont be able to place them on the ramp
It's getting in the high thirties at night, so I have a heat lamp in the chicken coop. My chickens are only 2-3 months old. They know how to use the ramp to leave the coop in the morning, but they haven't figured out how to use the ramp to get put up at night. I'm worried they are going to...
This is my 16 day old partridge silkie I hatched from an egg that was shipped from PENN to AL. Name is Ocsar.
This is my 7 day old blue splash silkie I hatched from an egg that was shipped from FL to AL. Name is Bert.
This is my 6 day old blue splash silkie I hatched from an egg that was...
they'reHISchickens :
I think the silkies will be fine at 12 days - for 2 reasons.
One, the single chick will be older and more lonely.
Two, 12 days is less than 2 weeks so the size difference is not that bad.
Hope you have a good second hatch!
thank you so much! i needed that reassurance.
Not to beat a dead horse, but...... I have 1 silkie baby. By the time, the other 3 hopefully hatch , their age difference will be 12 days. Will that be ok? I think my firefighter husband will kill me if I have two heat sources plugged in at the same time. So, I really don't want to have...

No, i think she is the only one from the 8 that was shipped from PENN to Alabama that's gonna make it. I'm worried she is going to be lonely and scared. She might have some friends hatch in another 1 1/2 weeks, but what to do until then? Give her a chick stuffed animal? I mean...
