    Chick has slight crossbeak

I ordered a couple of chicks that arrived yesterday. They are all in good health except for a Sultan, who has a slightly crossed beak. Is there anything I can do for that? She's eating and drinking, but I know it may cause problems in the future.

Sick pullet won't eat/ is lethargic

    1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.) Sesame, my 10-month-old NH Red pullet, usually a heavy bird, now very skinny. 2) What is the behavior, exactly. I saw her drooping her head and closing her eyes a couple days ago. This...

    Silkie Color?

I found this little girl (hopefully) at Agway. She was a bit lethargic, and was pasting up, but I fixed that and she is chipper as a chipmunk now. What color is she? She's off-white, a little"pinkish" but with some blue/white highlights. I don't think she is white. Either splash or buff, I...

    Rescue Chicks

My feed store has chicks, and I noticed some weren't doing so well. I offered to take them home to try to nurse them back to health. They said yes on the condition that I keep them. (seeing as my coop is full, I"ll give them away.) One chick had a pasty butt. Some warm water and a hairdryer...

    The neighbor's dog....

just paid a "visit" to my backyard, where she proceeded to harass and chase my free-ranging chickens! I was watching and my own dog was there, so nobody got hurt. (Well, my dog doesn't mind the chickens, but he is a retrivever, so he doesn't help much.) But I was VERY angry at this dog...

    Broody or Stubborn?

Goose already laid fer egg this morning, but decided she wanted to shuffle about in the favored box. Shuffle, shuffle, tap the fake egg, shuffle. Fish wanted to lay her egg, and was waiting impatiently outside the favored box, growling. I moved the egg over, but Fish still wanted that box...

Do they hatch? I just discovered that my King Kullen sells them. If they do hatch, has anyone had any experience with this? I'm not going to do any hatching anytime soon, my dad won't let me and we also don't have space right now, I just wanted to know degree of sucess, breed, etc. I plan on...

    Songbirds- weird

I was free ranging the chickies today and heard a great squeaking noise. I looked up and saw hundreds of birds flying around in this huge ivy-covered tree in my yard. It was NUTS. They would all fly in together, and then more would come, and they would flap around in the leaves, doing...

My friend is new to chickens... she has six 2-month-old pullets. She says that they're feeding them layer pellets mixed with chick feed. I told them that this is BAD. I told them that they should be feeding them grower (like me.) They said that no, grower is for MEAT BIRDS. We use the same...
