I have a flock of 10 hens of various ages and breeds. They all molted between Nov-Dec and some were starting to lay again. For the past month I've been getting 2-3 eggs a day (I'm guessing 4 chickens were laying). And I got my first olive egger egg 6 days ago. Then 5 days ago they all...
This summer I bred my easter egger blue/wheaten hen with a blue marans rooster. I hatched out 8 chicks from green eggs and got 3 females. Those girls have just started to lay and I'm getting brown eggs. Now, I'm not positive who's laying, but they are the only ones that look like they might...
I have some olive eggers and some marans/wyandotte chicks for sale. I'm selling the ones that I think might be boys. They are 2.5 weeks old.

As you can see, Oscar is a big burly pit bull. But his gentleness amazes me. He's a therapy dog and we do crisis response work. I got him from a pit bull rescue, that had gotten him after he sat for over a month at a county animal shelter. He was a year old with no idea of his past history...
It's an olive egger, so half easter egger and half blue birchen marans. It looks like a very pale grey-green color, sage colored perhaps. Definitely not yellow, and not really white either. Two pics of her, but they don't show the subtlies of her color very well.
This one might be the...
Today is day 19 and I woke up to a pip! It's at the wrong end of the egg but seems to be doing well. So this afternoon we had a major wind storm and lost power. I immediately covered the incubator with a towel, but the temps just kept falling. When they hit 94 degrees and falling, I knew it...
I have put a blue birchen marans rooster in with my girls. The hens are Blue laced red wyandotte, Welsummer, Partridge rock, Silver laced wyandotte, columbian wyandotte, and 2 lemon/blue easter eggers (both lay green eggs).
So you'd get some olive eggers for sure, and some mixed breed darker...
Heartland Humane Society in Corvallis Or has a peacock available for adoption (or so I've been told). Anyone interested should contact the shelter directly. Just a public service announcement. They aren't really equipped to house these guys, so it needs a new home.
Today I discovered that one of my birds have lice, so in a fit of dosing them all with ivermectin, I weighed them and they are MUCH lighter than I thought.
I have 2 wyandottes, the SLW is 4lbs 14oz and the columbian is 4lbs 8oz. They are both a year old.
My easter egger is 5 lbs (3 years old)...
I have a Wheaten Penedesenca rooster/cockeral for sale. He's 6 weeks old. Local pick up in Corvallis OR only.
Also a female easter egger for sale, 6 weeks old. ($6)
I have a flock of 6 laying hens that are 2-3 years old. I also have a group of chicks that I hatched out. My plan is to keep one of the rooster chicks, let it breed with the older girls and then hatch out some of their chicks. I can't have roosters where I am, so my first question is what are...
I have a 5 week old light brahma chick that is becoming practically naked. It's losing its fluff and not replacing it with feathers fast enough. Is this normal? He's really mangy looking.
I've checked for mites, and didn't see any. Skin looks healthy underneath, although maybe a little dry...
So I have 18 chicks that I hatched. They are a day old and various breeds.
I'm going to try every sexing test on them, and keep records to see which are right.
I know about vent sexing, and obviously sex-linked colors (which none of these are).
Please explain the methods AND what the results...

WARNING: THIS POST CONTAINS PHOTOS OF BAD AND GOOD ASPECTS OF HATCHING! This includes embryo pictures, a sick chick, a birth deformity, and lots of healthy chick pictures and hatching pictures. There's nothing really graphic, but I didn't want to surprise anyone.
It's been a hatch fraught...
I just moved 19 eggs to the hatcher, tomorrow (2/14) is lock-down. I'm going to put a hardware cloth divider up to make 2 groups, so I can tell the chicks apart. Should I make 3 groups? Here's my 2 group plan (and what I think the chicks might look like):
In one 1/2 of the incubator:
7...
So I have this little chick, it hatched out last Thursday so is almost a week old. It's a Black Copper Marans Chick and the only one of my 14 eggs that hatched. It pipped on its own on day 23, but right in the middle of the egg. So I opened a small hole to see what was going on, and it was in...

So I've discovered you can get the electric thermostat and fan for the Hovabator for around $60 (much cheaper than the $130 for the whole incubator). If this could be installed in my LG, then I can stop worrying about all the temp issues. Has anyone done this before?
This is the part...
I'm curious if eggs with completely detached air cells can hatch. I have a batch that must have gotten some really rough handling. The air cells are completely loose and some of the eggs even slosh (I can hear it) when I move them.
Any hope for these eggs?
I've had many with partially...
