Today my power went off while at work when I came home the brooder light was off. I checked on my new babies 3-4 weeks old. One of the silkies was barely alive. I picked her up and wrapped her up and she's laying on my chest for warmth. I think she got too cold. Anything else I can do?? I...
Just wanted to tell everyone Merry Christmas from Wild & Wonderful West Virginia! Thanks to all my BYC friends who haven given me so much good advice over the past year on raising my chickens and hatching new ones. I have learned so much on this site. Have a very Happy New Year too!
Hi... I live in West Virginia. I'm looking for a list somewhere of upcoming poultry shows. I don't mind going to NC, VA, KY or OH...just checking to see if there is something online?
Thanks!
I have 1 Americauna EE & 2 Silkies that hatched a few weeks ago. I've got a few questions.
They are still under a brooder light and in a big tub. When can they go outside and will the other chickens accept them? The rest are 1 Roo and 5 Leghorn Hens that are 8 months old.
My plan was to...
This morning, one of my girls kept squaking and squaking.... I thought she was egg bound, but when I went to check on her she was in her nest. The chicken beside her jumped down to come see me along with the rest but she stayed and walked back and forth in the two boxes then sat back down...
I have a week old Americauna EE chick. For some reason, this one every so often chirps to the top of his lungs...it is beautiful and really loud! LOL Any chances this one might be a Roo? I don't mind, I was just curious, it's quite a cutey!
I have 2 new Silkies, they are almost a week old. How can you tell the sex of these? One is bigger than the other but I'm not sure that means anything? Just wondering... they sure are cute!
I have an Americauna EE chick, 4 days old. I noticed last night that under her neck, right side is protruded out some. It feels soft. Does anyone know what this might be. She got turned over for awhile and we found her and turned her back over. She's still chirping and eating. Any...
Would someone please tell me why some coops are on "legs" about a foot off the ground or something and some are not? I'm in the process of designing a new coop and I'm searching ideas... Thanks!
Does anyone know how long you leave your chicks in the incubator? Mine hatched this morning... I have 2 silkies and 1 Americauna...2 more eggs left to Pip! Just wondering...
I have some baby silkies hatching this morning... got my first one about 5:30 this morning. I had to leave for work! Will they be okay by themselves doing it all on their own... I'm so worried.... this is my first hatch
I have an 8 month old rooster named Wyatt Earp.... when I brought him home (at 6 months) he had a rough time getting use to my girls. Actually they beat him up pretty bad. Since then, they have all finally been getting along. He seems to try to be the man in charge but the main hen still runs...
Wish changing the brand of laying mash affect my chickens? I use to feed them Purina Layena but changed to something I got at tractor supply last night? Just wondering... I think the brand was Domar or something like that. It's still crumbles..
Saturday I spent the day cleaning out my hen house and putting new flooring in. I let the girls and my Roo out to free range for awhile (we do this pretty often). Well, when I finished one of the hens came back in and was "clucking" up a storm in a loud way..... was she mad at the changes in...
Tomorrow I go on lockdown. I have 3 silkies and 2 americauna EE's to hatch. Humidity is around 62% and temp is still at 99.5..... should I increase the temp or humidity? I'm thinking at least 65% and temp is okay? Please give me some tips..this is my first hatch and I'm so excited!!
My temps are running around 99.5 and humidity from 55-65%... I am on my 6th day of incubation? Are the conditions right or should I change anything? When I go into lockdown do I remove the red plugs? I have a still air incubator.. many thanks!
How often should you dust your chickens bedding and coop for lice and mites? How can you tell if they have them? I try to keep my coop really clean but don't want to be putting too much dust in there. Thanks
Just set my eggs yesterday, Silkies and Americauna EE's.... this is my first time. Purchased an incubator from tractor supply.
So far, temp is doing good. Where can I get a cheap humidity thermometor? Any suggstions I might use for this first run?
