so the other night my sister went to close the coop door and found one of our Silkie Roos dead inside the coop.
No signs of a predator on him or the coop. She mentioned that he had been laying under one of our covered areas more for the past couple days but nothing other than that
Any...
So we’ve got a mixed flock, 2 Roos, 4 hens, and 4 pullets (about 17-18 weeks roughly)
We recently integrated our pullets into the flock. The younger ladies have been on chick starter but since being in with everyone else, they’ve been eating the layer feed.
1. Is it safe for our younger...
Just wanted to confirm our suspicions, this little baby is a roo correct?
Only about 4 weeks old, already seeing little waffles and red comb development
I added 2 pics of each chicks. All are between 6-7 weeks. Opinion of sexes?
( earlier thread had all 8 chicks, but I didn’t include them in this update because we’re pretty sure they’re boys)
The first 4 photos are a swapped; the 1st pic goes with the 3rd and 2nd goes with 4th
Can add more...
I think I’ve got a couple Crested Cream Leg bar (hen) x Silkie (rooster) cross chicks
I was reading that CCL can be auto-sexed based on coloring. Would that hold true in a crossbred chicken?
I added pics of each chick at about 4 weeks
so I’ve got 8 chicks right now that are about 5 weeks. Mama has been taking care of them up until this week.
We been working on hand feeding and handling them each daily. they don’t particularly like being handled, but we’re still trying. Are there other tips for socializing friendly chicks?
I know it is probably too early to tell but I wanted to post just to see.
chick 1 (1-3)
Chick 2 (4-6) (roo?)
Chick 3 (7-9)
Chick 4 (10-11) (roo?)
Chick 5 (12-14)
Chick 6 (15-17)
Chick 7 (18-20)
Chick 8 (21-23)
Chicks are between 4-5 weeks old
They are all first gen. Silkie crosses. (Different hens)
We got this girl when she was still little. We were told we was a Serama. Wanted to know if she was a pure Serama or maybe some sort of mix.
She’s teeny tiny and lays the tiniest eggs.
First two pics are of one of our girls. She’s big and docile. I’m thinking splash Orpington?
And then I’m wondering about the two in the front of the third pic.
- the black and white one (Sussex?) (lays pinkish eggs)
- the red one (to the right of the other one) (lays light green eggs...
