Got her and her sister out of the sapphire gem bin at Bomgaars. Someone told me she's too dark to be a Sapphire Gem. Her sister is circled in the 2nd photo
Who's eggs are these? These cuties are caged together before integrating with the rest of the flock. 3 of the past 4 days I've found an egg in their cage. One is lavender ameraucana (not Americana or Easter egger, but a purebred Ameraucana from a breeder.) The other is a silkie/EE cross...
Could these eggs have come from the same hen? I have a welsummer and a hatchery quality bcm that are suspect. They both hang around the nesting boxes, but these I find outside of the boxes so it's hard to know where they came from.
This adorable little hen is being sold to me as a Satin. Seller says she's a black silkie and Easter egger. She and her sisters lay cream or green eggs. Thoughts on this?
I have some black copper marans, a Wyandotte, and an Easter egger who are 25 to 27 weeks old. Is there any hope for them to start laying before spring at this point?
I've had an orpington and a welsummer start in the past two weeks, so I was holding out hope for these others.
We've adopted a lavender Ameraucana who lost all her flock mates to predators. I don't know much about this breed. Would love to hear from others who've had them. She's soooo fluffy and cute!
This little beauty is a 5mo old Lavender Ameraucana. The lady we got her from lost her entire (small) flock to predators except for her. She needed some friends! After keeping her separate for a few weeks to keep an eye on her for biosecurity, what is the best way to introduce a single hen to an...
I've got an order of 25 Whiting true blue female chicks on order for next February. I don't want to keep all 25, but that's the minimum order. Is that a breed that will be easy to sell extras of locally? Is this a thing that people do when ordering chicks?
This is one of the first eggs from my cuckoo marans. Cool looking but not what I expected at all! Anyone have a Cuckoo marans lay such a light or speckled egg?
We live in town and need to keep no more than 10 chickens and zero roosters. Currently we have 11 hens and 1 roo, ages 25 to 18 weeks (in my chart below they're listed oldest to youngest.) We want to try hatching some eggs next spring and have some younger hens in the flock so not everyone is...
I love the varied look of the EE and the beautiful eggs. But this girl has been skittish from the start. I would try to cuddle her as a baby and she wanted no part of it! She's definitely at the bottom of the pecking order and doesn't really seem to have any friends. Are most EE like this?
Take a look at the 5 eggs on the top rack. So our Barred rock (small cream egg) and smoky pearl (large brown egg) have been laying for a few weeks now. We get 2 eggs every day. Yesterday and today there's been an extra egg! Who is laying now? The Wellsummer is 25 weeks. The silver laced...
I have this adorable, handsome young man whom I was suckered into buying from the straight run bantam bin. He's only 14ish weeks, so he's not trying to get lucky with anyone yet. He's blessed to be sharing a home with 10 full size ladies though. Will he try to mate with them? Will he...
These are the most skittish little things ever! Hard to get pics... No crowing yet, but obviously one is bigger and has a much bigger comb and waddles.
Got her from TSC as an Americana. Any thoughts what breeds might be in her? She's super duper skittish, and definitely at the bottom of the pecking order.
(3) 20 week old hens
(3) 17 week old hens
(4) 16 week old hens
(1) 13 week old bantam hen
(1) 13 week old bantam suspected rooster
No one is laying yet. They're currently getting an unmedicated chick feed.
The 20 week old hens show signs of beginning to lay soon, but no eggs yet.
Pic of...
These aren't the best photos but these 2 are very skittish. I have 2 cochin bantams. I'm thinking one rooster, one hen?? Also, I think the hen is so curly she might be a frazzle? Any thoughts?
