Quick question for those of you who raise meat birds to sell, is there any special licensing you have to get to sell them? What are the ins and outs? Thanks in advance!
this is a standard cochin rooster that came from a hatchery. I am curious as to what color this would be consifered? Is he a poorly marked silver laced? Or a Birchen? Any help would be great. He is a year old.
I am picking up my new flock of Golden Cuckoo Marans today after work. It consists of 8 hens and 1 rooster. They are "supposed" to be good quality birds. I am wanting to have great birds, so I am looking for some other people who are breeding them to possibly mentor me along the way. I am...
we are looking to purchase another trio of ornamental pheasants, we have not decided on what breed yet, so if you have some for sale in washington state please email me at [email protected]
I have only ever had a silkie go broody until now. I went out last night to find my biggest standard cochin hen sitting on an egg. I left her alone, and this morning she was still sitting on her 1 egg. By this afernoon she now has 2 eggs, one was donated by one of her banty pen mates. But...
I have a couple of banty cochins that I am questionable on the sex. They hatched march 15th of this year. I have 2 that are definately pullets, yellow comb and all. But these dont seem to have any bigger comb than the others, they are just pinker, not quite what I would call red. I don't...
I am wanting to invest in a good quality incubator. I currently have a little giant. I am willing to spend money to get a good one, I just need to know everyones oppinion on them and where to get the best one I can get for a somewhat reasonable amount, as well as what I should expect to pay...
my eggs that my broodies are setting on are starting to hatch!!! 2 are pipped and about 6 more to go. I am so excited. They are peeping up a storm. I am expecting silkies, banty cochins and polish. one that is pipped is a silkie and one a cochin.
I got this chick from a breeder friend of mine who has silkies and sizzles. She swears that her partridge silkies CAN'T be frizzles, but this ones feathers dont look ANYTHING like the rest. What do you all think? Sizzle or silkie? Sorry the pistures arent better.
I have been looking for blue cochin chicks for a long time, so my husband went to the feed store to pick up hay today and cam home with this...
it was marked as a miscelaneous banty....so...any idea what it might be? He knew it wasn't a cochin (or any other breed that we raise) but thought...
I wanted to share a picture of my silkie/cochin frizzle chick. It is a really pretty blue color. Its mother was a black frizzle cochin, and its father was blue silkie. I am so excited to have it. I hope to use it with my silkies to get more sizzles.
What kind of thermometer does everyone use? What has worked for you? I seem to be having problems with my temperature and so was wondering what kind of thermometer everyone is using. Thanks
Napa, the little black hen you sent me is sitting on 2 eggs this morning. Hopefully they are fertile. It would be nice to get more new blood!!! Also, my mottled cochin hen has decided that she wants to sit too, but one is DEFINATELY not hers!!! She must have stolen an egg from the standard...
Some of you probably saw my post about my thermometer problems, and my 7 thermometers to see what my eggs have spent their days at in the incubator. I had eggs at all stages. I am happy to report that I think that I have my temp figured out, and was candling eggs tonight and am finding that...
I have a pekin duckling, well 2 actually, but only 1 in question, who is HUGE. He is 2 weeks old and already seems to have problems walking. His joints in his legs (ankles?) are really big and he is having a hard time getting around. He takes lots of rests. the other is half his size...
I have 3, 6 week old polish and have NO idea how to tell wether they are pullets or cockerals. Our other polish came to us as adults and it is very obvious who is what! Any tips on sexing them at that age. here are some pictures of them. #1
