Was just at a friends because one of her hens are sick and she didn't know what to do. When I picked her up and turned her over, her backside was slimy and wet and she felt underweight and there were small worms squirming in and out everywhere.... I've never had this happen and don't know what...

Can a Cochin rooster be too heavy for lighter weight hens?

I have a Blue Cochin rooster who recently turned 2. In the last 3-4 weeks I've notice broken feathers on some of the girls... on both sides with the breaks happening midway on the length of the feather. My thought is that he's gotten too big for them. The girls are RIR, EEs, Wyandotte...

Is wicker pieces okay for use in the run/coop?

I have a kitty condo that isn't being used and wondered about putting it in the run for outside laying opportunities. (Minis the pillow of course) The wicker is thick and I guess I'm worried about their toenails getting torn or broken from it. Your thoughts are appreciated! TX!

When can I take newly hatched chicks away from mama hen?

I've never let a broody hatch eggs before so I have zero experience with this. We really don't want to keep the chicks but I don't want her all hormonal because they disappear either. Please share your experience!!!

Opinions on which rooster to keep plz!

I had to get rid of my mean rooster last year but because the flock free ranges, I was on the lookout for an adult, nice rooster. In the spring I found a LF Cochin rooster and he has been taking good care of the girls. This spring I also ordered day old French Black Copper Marans, of which 4...

Can my LF broody hatch Silkie eggs and intragate them into my LF flock?

Don't know if it's a wise thing to try or not. I've always wanted Silkies but only have one coop/run. I don't want my big girls killing them but thought maybe if my broody hatched them, they'd be protected and then intragated. Let me know your thoughts folks!! Thanks!

Water & food access for hen sitting on eggs question....

I have a hen who went broody. With the temperatures rising, should I put water and food right by the egg box? She is coming out and eating/drinking/dust bathing every day. I'm worried that with it getting hotter, she might be at risk. I don't really want water in the coop but can if your...

If a broody hen stops sitting on the eggs, can you safely move....

the eggs to an incubator? My hen is not proven but she went broody last week. A friend has some shipped eggs coming but I'm not sure we should try her or not. If anyone has had to do this, I'd appreciate hearing your story! If I could safely move the eggs into the incubator should she...

Lovin' the PDZ in my coop :)

Thanks to Thespoiledchicken's thread, "poop-board-convert-warning-graphic-gross-poop-pictures", about how she designed the poop boards and are maintaining them with PDZ, I was able to start out my new coop with PDZ instead of some other substance on the floor. I was going to go with sand but...

    My chicks are missing :(

I was expecting chicks to arrive this a.m. but they went missing in Louisville, Ky. last night. I don't really understand how they 'cannot locate' them. The chicks were sent Express mail and should have easily made it here overnight. Need some +++++ vibes for them to arrive safely either...

What can I do about water drops underneath the coop/run roof.

We used Tuftex corrugated plastic roof panels to cover the coop and the run. I love the look of it. However, last week after a wet spell, there were droplets of water everywhere underneath. I was walking around in the run and looked up and saw the droplets. The run is open on 3 sides and...
