I have been separating breeds for hatching. ALL BROWN eggs shown here are Rhode Island Whites. Most are Rhode Island Whites used to crossed with Rhode Island Reds to hatch sex-link chicks. However if you look at the bottom left side you will notice a trend of much darker eggs(they all have...

I started this project last year after reading up a little on the ISA Browns.
I know I can't produce the "TRUE" ISA Browns but this looks like a good project.
I ordered about 16 RIW hens, 30 RIR hens along with 5 roos from ea breed last year.
The laying habits of the two breeds are as...
I'm am not new to hatching however hatching larger quantities of chicks will be a new experience.
Last year I bought an old GQF 1202(?) Incubator and an old GQF Hatcher.
This 1202 hold 60 eggs per shelf and has 3 shelves. 3 x 60 = 180 eggs. My experience with it last year was about a 60%...
How much does the really cold days effect the hatch-ability of eggs when they can't be gathered until end of day? I wouldn't say it was cold enough to freeze them but maybe 19 deg. outside and 27 inside.
Should I chance setting them or just wait for warmer days?
This was a great find... just what i've been looking for.
God always provides.
This appears to have all the parts that of the GQF 1202 but has a homemade cabinet.
I have discovered that my egg turner motor is heating up in the incubator.
I have never noticed that to be normal?? does it need to be replaced? What does that do with temps inside?

I have never hatched a duck before... but a neighbor gave me about 10 eggs that they had planned to eat but decided they didn't like them. So either because they may have been in the fridge or they were not fertile there is only one that appears to be hatching. No other chicks to put it with...
Wonder if anyone has an idea on the egg color from the pullets bread from a mix- white leghorn Hen and a Wellsummer roo?
Will the White Leghorn dominate the color of the egg or will the roo effect the color as well?
I waited a long time for my BCM from Bev Davis stock. I have 18 chicks that are about 4-5 weeks old and I have them mixed with 35 layers or so. I was thinking I would leave these together long term and just make sure I have no roos other than BCM's. Does anyone see a problem with a breading...
Last year I e-mailed Bev Davis's personal e-mail and asked to get on a waiting list to buy some of her Black Copper Marans directly from her. She informed me that she is not selling at the moment but working on breeding projects. She did however direct me to Jennifer Combs who is selling Bev...
Before you get too excited about new chicks and place your order in the winter be sure you have thought it through carefully. Here are a few points I overlooked a few years back.
#1 Finding someone to ship baby chick in the winter is not to hard. There are a few that will send them as long...

I forgot there were any pictures of building these roost but I ran across them today... so I thought id share just how I built these.
First I used two heavy rough 2" x 6" for supports. One end of the supports reaches up and rests on the wall but is hinged on the rafter with a bolt that runs...
