one black and one partridge cochin, one sleek silver phoenix girl. They're all 4 months old. I like raising chicks, but can't keep them all if I want to raise more, so some get to look for other homes, $20 each.
They came from a local petstore and are supposed to be all girls, although i think there are 2 boys in the bunch. They are supposed to be "breeds", but I didn't ask what hatchery.
Wondering what breeds they are
she has clean yellow legs
silver what? chipmunk body.
boy, feathered...
Great opportunity to own a 6 month old trio for $175. Parents are crossed from Greenfire and Ewe Crazy lines, so there is a good assortment of genes here.
All black feathers, toenails, beaks, combs, etc.
Also have a 16 week old pair for 100, or can have with the the trio for $250 total. [ so...
Great chance to enjoy the Swedish Black Chicken. The pair is 11 months old. fertility has been great. All the feathers on both of them are black. The tip of the female's beak isn't all black, and when the boy hit 5 months old his ear lobes leaked some white.
They are quite cute together...
Svart Hona chicks. The parent pair is from both Greenfire and EweCrazy lines. Female has a small dot of pink in her mouth, and the dad was pure black until some white leaked out in his ear lobes.
Both have black nails and all black feathers.
Hatching Monday, but would rather not ship them...
Can anyone identify these poults?
They were supposed to be one breed, but are all different, so i'm guessing mixes, but don't really know.
Hatched May 29th
I just processed 6 twelve week old cornish crosses. most of them have a yellow film that I can rub off. It seems to be the topmost layer of skin. Did I scald them too long? should I rub it off or leave it or does it not matter?
These are my first CX. I've processed older cockerels before...
sorry this will be long.
My first cornish crosses. I don't need the best feed: meat ratio. I would rather let them get bigger and get more meat out of each bird bec for me the hardest part is the processing. [ I have done some in the past, and am getting better, but it's still something i have...
So with 3 broody hens [ Dark brahma, Jersey Giant, Buff Minorca], all just over a year old, I gave in and ordered chicks.
they arrive 2 days ago. I made sure they ate and drank and later that night put some under each hen.
Yesterday am: The Brahma took to them right away. JG put up with...
Save yourself the time of raising them and get them just before they start laying!!!
two 4 month australorps and a silver laced Wyandotte [with a single comb]. Also two 2 year old Australorps [$5 each]. I've too many and need to thin the herd. I'd really prefer to sell the bossy Barred...
the petshop had ordered the pullet assortment from McMurrays. I went in for 4-5 and came out with 9. Thankfully DH loves me. I'm pretty sure 3 are Barred Rocks, the others i don't know but have some guesses.
All have clean legs
There are 3 that are black and white/cream, single comb. Pink...
Of course straight run means some roosters, and I planned on eating them, but can't bring myself to eat this one.
He will be a year old May 1st
We're in Suffolk on Long Island
I have assorted brown egglayers plus one leghorn that lays cream colored eggs. I also have a 4.5 month old EE pullet. About 3 weeks ago i found one, full sized, WHITE egg in the slightly elongated shape of one of my brown layers. I didn't know if that was my EE starting or not, and figured...
Has anyone used this heated waterer before? I've looked on a few sites, and this one looks like the best deal for its size [3 gals]

These are 4 classroom chicks hatched the second week of May., so they're just over 3 months old now. I thought they were all leghorn mixes, but #4 looks much different, in body and stance.
1 in foreground and chick 2 behind: 1 has a thicker neck than 2 and 3

Thought we might keep one, but there really are too many and we're not supposed to have roosters at all. They're about 4 months old. They are on Long Island now, but i am traveling to the Outerbanks, NC in 2.5 weeks, so we can meet along the way if needed.
The white one does have green...
we're building a more secure run, which won't have a top for a while, but down the line will, so i want the rest of it to be raccoon-proof [biggest problem here] from the start.
What kind of wire for the sides? I know poultry netting is out. I don't remember where I read this, but I have in...
