    Another keet question

So I put my three 6 weeks old keets in the coop last week with the heat lamp and they have done well with the temp in the 20's at night. They are in an extra large wire dog kennel. I know they need to be in there for about 6 weeks to know where home is but I was wondering....they really seem...

Why would the fertility rate be so low?

I currently have 5 adult guineas (one female and 4 males). This year was the females first year to lay. I've never seen them mate but I've incubated her eggs 3 times. Each with 14-16 eggs. The first 2 hatches only had 2 keets. The last hatch had only 5 fertile when I candled at day 10...

When can I put the keets outside?

I have 3 five week old keets and they are in a brooder in my basement. They are getting kind of big for it and I'd like to put them in their coop but it has been getting down in the 30's at night. The coop is actually a run in shed with an open front but the front wall is just hardware cloth...

Egg color experts - How did this happen?

I incubated several eggs 18 months ago. The rooster was a EE and was crossed with several different breeds. As they grew up, two looked like EE's but laid brown eggs. So they have been laying for over a year and yesterday I got a green egg! How did this happen?

Look at my April Fools surprise!

I didn't breed any of the donkeys last year and didn't know she was pregnant! The jack must have bred her through the fence! I had bred her several times in 08, 09 and 2010 and she didn't settle. One time thru the fence and look what happens. His name is Houdini.

Does anyone use crushed corn cob bedding?

I just came back from Rural King and noticed that all the new chicks were on crushed corn cob litter. I have 18 chicks in the brooder that I'm just transitioning from paper towels to shavings but thought this would be so much better. I get tired of cleaning shavings out of the waterer...

What predator would have done this? Update-found one

I have (had) 3 male guineas (2 grays, 1 white) who roost in a big oak tree just outside the chicken coop for 1 1/2 yrs. This morning only one guinea is here and Gray feathers all over the ground, hanging on the coop fence and in the tree so whatever attacked them went into the tree. No white...

    Genesis 1588 Hovabator Question

This is my first time hatching and they are due on the 28th. I candled and got rid of 3 that weren't fertile and the rest seem to be doing nicely. How do I move my broody hen?

I have a 2 year old pair of BRs and the hen just went broody on 2 eggs but they are in the hay stack in the middle of a barn with an open front and no way to close her in at night. I'm concerned a racoon or something will get her so I tried to move her last night to a similar setup I made in...

My 2 yr old BR hen started laying about 2 weeks ago and I have opened a few eggs and there is no bullseye ring like they are not fertile. The tom displays pretty much all day long although I've not seen him mating her but DH sys he has seen it. Why would they not be fertile?

I found a BCM pullet yesterday that a skunk had killed and tried to drag her body under the barn but she didn't fit. She was on her back stuck under the edge of the barn which has a raised floor.
