    MyPetChicken FAIL, need alternative

Hi All-- For about a decade I've been getting birds from both the local ag stores (for the "farm birds" as I think of them, Leghorns, BRs, etc.) and MyPetChicken. I use MPC b/c 1. They have some interesting birds I can't always find in the ag store and 2. They will ship as few as three birds...

How to flush impacted crop w/ water?

I think my three month old New Hampshire Red has an impacted crop. The crop is full in the morning and she's thin and sluggish. I'd read that they need water (some use oil) during this time. In the past I've simply opened the beak and poured a little in (I now have an eye dropper) but read this...

    Two-Year-Old Leghorns Stopped Laying

I have two 2-year-old Leghorns that have stopped laying completely. It's been a month and a half. They are not ill, not in a moult, not in any way changed. They still squat for me (no roo in our coop) so they seem to think they are still breeding. Up until this work stoppage they were egg...

    Wheezing bird on hot day

My Golden Laced Wyondotte is wheezing badly on this 100 degree day in Northern Cal. We've had hotter days, and I've never heard a bird make this noise. I'm trying to upload it to Youtube and it's slow, DH and I are freaking a little so I'm posting wo/ the vid. I've moved her into our air...

Anyone Heard Foxes Screaming Around Their Home?

We had a young fox trapped and dispatched last month. Now I'm hearing what I'm almost sure is another one screaming in the distance. It's very loud, sounds like a cross between a bark and a meow. Claiming territory? Ugh. more trapping.

Stopped Deep Litter: Why Doesn't My Coop Reek?

I inadvertently stopped topping off droppings w/ litter a few months ago yet my coop has virtually no smell. It is well ventilated. Details: I switched from straw to pine shavings and found I had to scatter pine around every other day to keep it fresh otherwise it reeked terribly. Went on...

Extra Protein Feed for Feather Eating: Free Choice or Exclusively?

I have some game bird food (higher protein) and I want to know if it's best to give it free choice, like oyster shell, or replace their regular layer feed w/ it. I've got feather-eaters I'm trying to fix. Do I need to force them to eat the extra protein or will they take care of it...

How Far Back Can We See Posts?

Do we have access to all the posts we have created since we joined BYC? If I wanted to look up some nonsense I wrote five years ago would I be able to do so? If so, how? THX.

Ideas on these chicks? A friend got two birds and doesn't know.

My friend has a neighbor who is an idiot and keeps buying birds having no CLUE about them. Unfortunately, I completely blow at any kind of ID. These were bought at a local city store, so if you can help, THX. (If the pic isn't working please let me know: I can see it on my screen)

After Losing Four Birds Caught This Guy

Over the course of two weeks lost four birds during the day. F & G sent out a trapper. The bait was a banty roo in a separate cage, bizarre. But it worked and this grey fox is no more. My girls run free again! (Well, for now...)

A Friend Wants to Know... I Say Roo (?)

Hey BYC, a friend of mine wants me to ID this bird her neighbors picked up at the ag store. Looks like it's ready to crow to me, but I'm always unsure about an ID so thought I'd check w/ the Experts. Do your magic, oh sagacious ones, and pronounce this bird....(sorry for the sideways pic)

Birds That Scream and Cry to Be Let Out, UGH!

About an hour or so before I'm ready to let them out each day my Jersey Giants go mad. Our coop is under our deck (I swear, it's a cool idea, if a bit odd) and when they hear my footsteps they start screaming. The other breeds, not so much. I refuse to give in to their bratty demands! Am I...

    Wild Duck Clutch in Patio!

Hey BYC, a friend of mine could use some (any!) advice. She has a condo in Palm Springs, CA and there is a wild duck w/ 11 eggs nesting in her courtyard. It's happened before and one time the eggs did not hatch, another time some hatched. I don't know from ducks so any help (should she give...

Virgin Hens? What If Girls Don't Comply?

No rooster in our crew. All the girls squat for me...except one. She runs away, fast. She lays. For those of ya'll w/ roosters, does a girl ever avoid the mating process? What would be happening to this hen in a flock w/ a roo? Just curious!

Rogue Nest: Keep It Or Empty It?

A few of my girls have gone rogue! I found an outside nest. I was thinking to leave an egg in it so that if (IF!!) they ever do it again I'll know where to look. (I've removed all eggs in the past from other times and they stop laying there...and find another place.) Ideas? (I know how to...

How can I get the back button to work properly on the site?

When I return to pages I am never returned to the right spot down the page; it is always the top of the page. How can I fix this? It happens to me on the entire forum.

How to Add Ventilation w/ Small Walls?

I would like to add some more ventilation but do not have a ton of wall space to cut into. There are windows but perhaps not enough of them. Is there a passive fan thingie (forgive the technical talk) I should use that might be better than a window? Whether it's a window or fan, should it be...

How long for an answer to an ASK BYC form?

I filled out the online form w/ the details of a question about a week ago. How long ought I to wait until I do that again, or is it better to post the issue in a thread (I thought the point of the form was to avoid using the threads for individual issues)? THX!

    Welsummer first egg! (Pic)

After much (!) fuss this girl finally created an egg. She tried several nests, one that already had two birds in it, and ended up on the pine shavings. Whatever!

No Roos Allowed but Feel Terrible

We have always had an "all girls" flock and have a roo we must dispatch. The last time this happened the guy was very aggressive and even tho it wasn't easy, it was doable. And this new issue is doable, but, man, this roo so sweet. He crows (not OK) and is, in general, a Good Guy. But it's an...
