    Hens with saddles

Question: I have started putting chicken saddles on some of my hens whose backs are bare. It's rained a lot since then, but I'm not seeing dirt on the saddles. Does that mean the roosters are just not doing their thing with the hens with saddles? Does that mean the roosters don't like them and...

What is causing chickens to have crooked bodies?

I visited a friend today who has several chickens that have crooked bodies. The tail and back part of the chicken angles off to the left. I pulled this photo from the internet, but it shows what his chickens look like. Any idea of what it is? Heredity? Mal-nutrition? Disease? Thanks

It started with one small chick who got a runny nose and watery eyes. She sleeps in a giant dog crate in the garage with a few other chicks. Now two of my adult birds have it. The adults stay in the coop, but free range during the day. The small chick is so "dry" feeling.. she is wasting...

Sick Chick....could this be Newcastles disease?

Hi, the other day my DH and I were delivering a coop to a lady. I went to look at her chicks that were in an old old small coop. There were about 15 chicks all trying to sit on top of the water feeder and food feeders. The floor of the coop was wire and they didn't like it. Anyway, one of...

    Chicks with large heads

I got three chicks at 1 week old. Two of them had very large heads that I thought added to their cuteness. Those two did not thrive. They stayed small, hardly grew any feathers and both ended up dying by 1 month old. The other chick with the normal head is growing like normal. Did the two...

    Limping

My 16 week old pullet has started to limp. I looked at her foot...and it looks fine. I think the pain is in the joint between where her feathers meet her legs. She looks healthy other than that. What should I do for her?

    Earlobe color question

Hi, I know that a white earlobe = white eggs and red earlobes = brown eggs. But my EE has a mint green earlobe. Does that mean she will have greenish eggs? My silkie has a blue earlobe and we all know they don't lay blue eggs. So, what is with the mint green earlobe? She has a pea comb and...

Are there any mentors in north GA?

I am interested in learning about breeding/incubating chickens. I am a newbee in the world of chicken though. Does anyone live near Dawsonville, GA who would be willing to show me how to incubate eggs and breed special chickens? Or can anyone suggest books/websites to read about the subject?

    Are black bears a threat?

I live in the north GA mountains. We have just started letting our chickens out to free range. Today we saw a black bear close to where our chickens were. We shooed it away. My husband thinks it wanted the chickens. I am thinking it really wanted the bag of deer corn we had in the garage...

    Roo or Pullet?

Any guesses on this Maran/Ameraucana chick? It was suppose to be an Olive Egger, but it has a single comb. Found out it is a 7/8 Maran and 1/8 Ameraucana. It is about 5 1/2 weeks old. I also noticed black spots on its comb. Is that normal? Also has some wattle already developing. More...
