Thanks to a fresh layer of snow, I found some tracks leading to my chicken coop. We have some neighborhood cats, but these tracks seemed bigger and with a longer stride. Maybe it's just a larger cat!? Any idea? I'm in northern Utah at the base of the mountains.
I am still unable to upload pictures on the mobile app. I get the error where the large CANCEL appears on the screen.
Now, in trying to upload pictures through the online BYC in Safari, I can select the picture and add it to my text. When I click submit, however, it logs me out and does not...
my rooster's dad was a Wheaten Ameraucana, and his mom was a Barred Rock. When he was a chick, he was grey with a white spot. He is now grey and barred. Here he is:
The hens parent stock was the same wheaten ameracauna rooster and an Easter egger hen. Here she is:
Here are the little chicks...

This time, however, it is going to be a little bit different. Rather than...
If I breed a cuckoo marans, or a silver laced Wyandotte Hens with my wheaten ameracauna/barred rock mix rooster... What pattern of chicks will I most likely get? Will they be barred?
Today I bought a Hohner accordion. The model says "Student IV."
Does anyone know how much it is worth? It seems to be in pretty good shape! Everything works. It is obviously very old due to the original case that it is in. From what I was told, an old accordion teacher used it to teach some...
So I had browsed and browsed to find some good examples of shed addition chicken coops, but found very few. So, I spent hours looking at coops here and tutorials on building, and voila! It is still a work in progress, and I have additional touching up to do. Hopefully this can help someone else...
This is a supposed Rhode Island Red rooster over a Silver Laced Wyandotte hen. I heard these were sexed link... and from what I read this was supposedly a hen. It was a darker chipmunk chick rather than a lighter chick... but now I'm not sure...
Any input?
The current polls may be out of date. It would be interesting to start a new official poll of how many chickens people have (hens vs Roos) and the reasons they have them. ,my flock has tripled but i can't reflect that in the polls.
This is just an idea! Thanks for all you guys do!
So, two days ago, I came home from work only to find my rooster nearly dead. He had been free ranging the yard, like always, with the other hens. He was lethargic (couldn't stand up), his head was bobbing, his eyes were closed, and his comb and wattles were cold and nearly black...
I thought...
I have a Black Copper Maran roo over various hens. What will happen if I incubate an egg from a white leghorn or a regular brown layer? What will the egg look like of this generation? Any ideas or pics would be helpful.
I just got three hens to add to the flock. I have never seen Wyandotte chicks before, so I wasn't sure what to get. The chicks were straight run and ranged from one to four months old (the owner just let the hens hatch all spring). I got the ones that looked the oldest and most henny. Please let...
Here is the four hen stable that I have been working on the last few weeks. I'm almost done! All that's missing is some paint, a door to the coop, the roof on the nesting box, a place to hang the water, and the wire! :) What do you think!?
Flip down panel allows for greater ventilation and...
Help! Please assist in gender guessing! All chicks are 4.5 weeks old today (5/1/13) :)
The barnyard mixes are all rooed by a California White (White Leghorn x California Grey) and henned by Red Sex Links, Barred Rocks, or Rhode Islands... at least that's what I was told)
Any help or insights...
So I am going to start collecting eggs to put in the incubator in about a week, however, I am unable to collect the eggs until I get home from work around 5 pm. Will the eggs still hatch if they are left in the nesting box in the 20 degree weather?
I tried to find relevant posts, but to no avail.
After recently making a new incubator, I realized I am out of hardware wire. Is it ok to just set the eggs on a towel in the incubator? Or what is another option? I plan on hand turning the eggs.
I've seen that some of the incubators have manual egg turners (pvc pipes with a carton attached) to turn the eggs. My question is this: if I were to use my hand, I would turn the eggs 180 degrees. However, with the egg turners, do they only slightly rotate back and forth... like, a pendulum sort...
