What can run walls be made of?

Curious what materials everyone has used for daytime runs? Mostly for confinement but also to protect from hawks and cats. I know hardware cloth, chicken wire, regular fencing but what else? I wonder what’s available that I don’t know about.

Ideas for run in an irregularly shaped area

This would be my preference. It would give me a 20’ x 20’ run. I’d be in chicken heaven 😂 I don’t when but eventually that will happen.

Ideas for run in an irregularly shaped area

I’ll propose this idea. It’s unfortunately also close to our property line. I’ll have to check to see if it’s within code.

Ideas for run in an irregularly shaped area

Honestly I wish I could just get my husband to move the pile of wood. But as you can see it’s massive and moving it is no small project.

Ideas for run in an irregularly shaped area

Hmmm. That is a potential but there is no door on that side getting into the current run. It’s also where we keep our trailer.

Ideas for run in an irregularly shaped area

Here is a picture. Im sorry it’s such a bad one and my yard is a mess right now. The red circle is the current space I’d like to turn into a more permanent type of run they can access during the day. DH is building a larger coop (currently we have 3 bantams in this set up). I hadn’t considered...

Ideas for run in an irregularly shaped area

I need to expand our run so my girls have more space during the day. At this time it just needs to be daytime predator proof (we’re in CT; hawks, cats, dogs, maybe foxes). We have a large pile of wood partly in the way of a perfect rectangle and I am not sure how to make this run happen or what...

Can I see the inside of your smaller coops?

Thank you. This is really helpful to see how yours opens. I can’t figure out how to arranger the egg boxes since I’ll only have access to the inside from of the front of the coop.

Can I see the inside of your smaller coops?

Thanks! Any of the roosting bars? How many do you have here? Chickens I mean. I like the door on the bottom idea but we have an auto door so that nix’s that.

Does everyone stress ordering chicks the first time 😱

Louise (aka LuLu) Henrietta(aka Henri) Fluffy Macaroni Orca Panda Oreo (aka OPO) And Snowy One BR ended up being a cockerel so he has a new home. These guys are all super friendly and like to perch on us and sit in our laps. Here’s hoping they’re ALL pullets!

Can I see the inside of your smaller coops?

Trying to decide the layout for an 8-10’x4’ coop which will be built within our existing predator proof run. The problem I’m coming up with is the egg box location. It’ll have to be on the front of the coop as the coop will be the full length of the run (leaving only the front accessible for...

    Two brooders, should I combine?

We can’t have roosters. Though we have a hen that crows, go figure

He is an absolute sweetheart. Sad I can’t keep him 😞

    Two brooders, should I combine?

They are barred rocks. Does this help?

    Two brooders, should I combine?

OK, I’ll have to plan for something like this. One of those pictures the sun is shining from behind the chick so it looks a little redder than it is. is that the only thing that might be questionable is that it’s very red? I’ll try to take a picture when I go back downstairs to the brooder...

    Two brooders, should I combine?

We have two separate brooders right now. One brooder has a hen and two chicks. The other brooder has five chicks. I suspect one of the chicks with the hen might be a rooster, and will inevitably need to leave our home. I am not able to put the hen and chicks outside yet. All of the chicks are...

Is it too soon to tell? Rooster?

These are two Barred Rocks that are just over 2 weeks old. One seems to be developing more of a comb than the other. I thought these were a sex link breed? Tried to get pictures. First is the one in question but I’m adding the second too. They are both the SWEETEST!

Does everyone stress ordering chicks the first time 😱

Everyone is doing well. They are all turning out to be so friendly 🤗 it’s also amazing to watch my hen mother the two she is in charge of 💜 they all jump into my hand and I’m hoping they’ll be lap chickens 😂
