    Journey - Any minute!

Looks like a baby is thinking about coming out into the world! Keep in mind goslings take their time hatching. One of mine “Strawberry” even chattered for a whole day before he decided to make an appearance.

    Sick gosling

This could be several things, something like malabsorption syndrome, a birth defect, some sort of parasite. If the little one has malabsorption there isn’t a lot you can do but try to elevate symptoms and boost their nutrient intake with supplements, probiotics, and possibly even digestive...

    Breeding Geese for Size

Evolution made it happen. The New Zealand goose was estimated to be 40 pounds. Evolution has its own timeline though, and rapid changes can have negative consequences, some of the heaviest dewlap Toulouse can sometimes have leg issues. The idea is intriguing but breeding for health along with...

Gosling making squeaky noises and safe toys

Yeah the low toned one was a snore, the squeal is what I call snuggle sounds, they do that when they’re cuddling or falling asleep. The high pitched CHIPE CHIPE CHIPE is crying, they either are hungry, thirsty, too hot, too cold, or want to be held.

    Overly picky goslings

Geese are very picky and are usually only willing to try something if they’ve seen someone else try it first. If they see you fiddling with it or eating it themse Fed they’re more willing to want to try it to, but it still may take a few tries. Geese are also individualistic and some will like...

Sebastopol gander with poor feather quality

You could boost his protein intake, feathers are just protein mostly. If that doesn’t help it could just be his genetics.

Goose losing balance - due to too many eggs laid?

I don’t know what ratio of corn to pellets you’re supplying but corn is nutritionally poor and it takes a lot of energy to digest it, it’s sugary so they’ll fill up on it like candy over other things and essentially starve themselves. Embdens are one of the largest and heaviest breeds (17 to...

Goose losing balance - due to too many eggs laid?

Does she eat anything besides what she forages? This sounds like a nutritional issue, either not enough calcium, vitamin E or any of the Bs.

    The Welsh Harlequin

...had settled in pretty deep, I checked on the other birds one last time, devastated that we had lost Bee and then I left to go inside. That little B**** comes waltzing out of a blackberry hedge just when she thought I was gone out of sight. She almost got killed by the fox today and she hides...

    Chinese or African?

So this is what ideally Chinese are supposed to look like https://www.waterfowl.org.uk/domestic-waterfowl/domestic-geese/chinese-goose/ This is what an African is supposed to look like, mind you these are exhibition grade birds...

    Chinese or African?

Hatchery Africans can vary quite a bit from exhibition Africans. Brown Chinese tend to be just brown versions of white Chinese, so small, light weight, slender, and keel-less. Africans tend to be a bit bigger and have a build that can be a little stouter but not always, but are keel-less also...

Gosling making squeaky noises and safe toys

Their voices go through some rapid changes and they won’t sound the same from day to day sometimes. If she isn’t eating pieces of it it’s fine, but once you see signs of her tearing bits off and swallowing it’s probably best to remove them.

HELP!? Gosling with a swollen stomach

If you can I strongly advise looking for another gosling now, so that they can bond quickly and so that the bigger gosling won’t be as traumatized when they lose their little friend as they won’t be alone.
