I would give them probiotics. That's "good bacteria". I used to give ours a little bit of Greek yogurt every day, or Hydro-Hen in their water every other day. Now we ferment grain so they're getting a lot of probiotics that way.
Any other symptoms? Do you have her on a layer feed or all...
Though mine always stay out in the rain (silkies) they won't walk in puddles, so I know they'd never step in pool. Perhaps a dust bath is a great idea though. In the shade they'd cool off in the dirt.
Ours is a 5-gallon DYI nipple bucket. We never "change" it, but refill it when it gets almost empty. It lasts about a month for around 20 silkies.
When it's almost empty, we bring it in the house can clean the nipples and insides. We put about 1/2 teaspoon of RV water freshener in it and...
He's exhibiting behavior I would expect from a 4-6 month old rooster, but then again mine are silkies and mature slower than others. What a great rooster he'll be as he grows up as he is already very intuitive as to what's best for the girls!! ❤️
Ours stay out in the rain too. They know the bugs and worms are always easier to get when it rains. The other chickens that run to the coop don't know what they're missing!
Hiya, and welcome to BYC!! :frow
Nobody makes coops like the Amish! We're in the process of purchasing a second one for breeding/growout expansion.
Congrats on yours!! It's beautiful! Congratulations on your marriage too!!
There's still two in the incubator but here's the latest batch of cuties hatched last night/this morning. Due date was today.
Interestingly, this is the same mauve rooster, the same chocolate hen, Marsha, and a black hen that have been in the breeding pen since I started this, but they just...
We did.
Last night I was watching the chickens heading to the coop. I noticed a 4-month old rooster was pecking very demonstratively on something near the coop so I ran out there. On my way, I realized it was a hen he was beating on. I screamed and clapped my hands as I ran. He wouldn't...
Yes, sorry, FB is Facebook, where there are poultry groups, unlike this group. People in those groups tend to be much more into conspiracy theories, judgmental, and outright mean to others who post posts or replies to posts they don't agree with. I've often wondered if most of them actually...
I just checked and we're only 6 hours and 17 minutes away.
Depending on the status of a new coop we're adding, we may consider a camping trip to there. It'll be close in timing though so we'll see in a couple of weeks how it's looking. Would sure be fun to meet you and maybe a few others! ❤️
If she took a week off, that's a bit of a short break. Even my silkies who are broody often take 3-4 weeks off normally. I assume she gets off every day or few days to eat and drink?
If she's your only possibility to hatch eggs, and you want her to, you could let her but I'd come by with some...
