First time using incubator on some large eggs the hen abandoned. Chick just hatched today - this one has noticeably bigger feet than the other one that hatched. They’re also curled slightly inward toward each other??
Is this normal/variable or is this a deformity?
broody hen is hatching in our bathroom as it’s too cold. woke up this morning and heard peeping, went to check and it looks like it’s still working!!!
as you can see in the photo (I didn’t move mom or egg) she doesn’t seem to be sitting fully on egg, is this normal?
we don’t know how long the broody hen has been laying on the egg. it’s clearly pretty far along, but I’d like to know what day as close as possible, so I know when to stop candling, and so I can plan to pick up day one chicks to go with it. any knowledge or advice appreciated!!
thank you!! yes, we plan to bring in egg/mom to our bathroom because it’s too cold out but we will leave the chick with mom. she’s been a chick mother before and she’s a great mom. i may slip a couple day one chicks under too though when it hatches so it has a couple friends.
Our hen went broody in the winter and we meant to break her but we’ve been very busy buying a home and it slipped our minds, we also left the eggs under her for awhile. Most did not develop, there is only 1 viable egg. Any thoughts on how far along it is and if it looks healthy? We think it may...
Hen went broody in the middle of winter. We weren’t paying enough attention collecting eggs honestly, these around probably day 6 or 7. I believe #1 is alive but 2 and 3 are dead, right?
Is it okay to hatch just one chick? Should we take her in since it’s winter?
