    Winter Brooder Help

Thanks folks for these ideas. I have a broody hen right now and eggs should hatch any day, if all goes well. She's on 12 eggs. It's winter in Ontario right now (today it's -10C) and my plan is to rig up a big dog crate inside the chicken coop for the chickies and the momma and let her out...

Hi - just seeing this now but yes I do. Apparently Red Pyle is not a look for Dorkings so a purist told me it must be a mix!

found what looks like blood encased in blood, in the shape of poo?

Ya I don't know what to make of it either. When I zoom in, I can almost see bubbles on it? I have no idea what this is. I did have one rooster recover from a near death experience due to worms, and so they've all been on worm medication in addition to Tylan (vet's instructions) and...

found what looks like blood encased in blood, in the shape of poo?

Hi all... I'm in Ontario, Canada (ie. it's fall here now), and found the strangest thing today in the chicken run. It's a glob that looks like a hybrid of a fat worm (but it's not a worm) in the shape of a stool... that looks like blood encased in blood. I found 2 of them in the yard and no...

Chicken tractors do not offer good protection from predators

Interesting thread to come across (5yrs later?) as I have been looking into Cackellacs. I imagine they talk about it being predator proof as in, from hawks, but not from creatures that could get through the tarp, or underneath. If I get one the creatures would only be in there during the day and...

Comment by 'they_were_seen' in article 'Fisher Cat - Chicken Predators - How To Protect Your Chickens From Fisher Cats'

Just trying to find out what size the hardware cloth should be. How big is too big? The fencing around the chicken coop is 2x2. Is that ok?

    Dorkings for sale

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum so not sure if this is the right place to post this thread. In fact, I don't know where to post anything in general... Anyway I have 8 Dorkings (5 weeks old - I'm not even sure the types but I can post pics if someone's interested) and I'm afraid that maybe 5...

How young is too young to feed chicks food vegetables

I went outside and got a handful of dirt with ants and worms in it, picked some oregano and kale, and finely chopped oregano, kale, some cauliflower, broccoli and carrots, and then give it all to the little babies. Mine are exactly 3 weeks old today. Hoping I fed them right I really don't...
