    Lame/Peeling Leg?

They don't free range. The closest they've come to any machinery is the zero turn mower once a week, and it's moving so they don't have access.

    Lame/Peeling Leg?

3 days ago, I separated my Ayam Cemani, Cinder, from the flock because she was limping. I've been checking her feet twice daily and there is no sign of bumblefoot. Today, I took her out so she could get some grass, and noticed her lame leg looks like it's peeling. I was hoping it was just a...

Introducing a Single to a Flock of 3

He'd be ok with it, if I could pay for it... I'm a stay at home mom with an Etsy store and I do craft fairs. It pays for my chickens and then some. It works for us! I'm impressed so far. She's very sweet.

AYAM CEMANI - BREEDING & DISCUSSION.

I have a new addition! She's in quarantine in the basement for now. She's an Ayam Cemani, about a year old. Her coloring isn't perfect, so she's not breeding quality, which makes this the perfect home for her. She's very quiet so far. She literally fell asleep in my arms. I don't have a...

Introducing a Single to a Flock of 3

Well, she's here. She's an Ayam Cemani, about a year old. Ayam Cemanis are an Indonesian breed. Her coloring isn't perfect, so she's not breeding quality, which makes this the perfect home for her. She's very quiet so far. She literally fell asleep in my arms.

Introducing a Single to a Flock of 3

They are truly pets :) Only one is laying right now. For the longest time, my husband said no more than 4. We had a 4th, but she passed last fall (she was about 8). Now he's ok with adding more. Later this spring I'm going to be getting chicks and building a larger coop/pen.

Introducing a Single to a Flock of 3

I have an extra dog crate, but not a full outside kennel. My current flock is in a 12x7 dog kennel as their pen. I wouldn't trust the dog crate outside at night. If I did the basement, I could take her outside for a few hours in the walk-out. I should mention that the basement area is a walk-out...

Introducing a Single to a Flock of 3

I don't have an additional coop or secure place to quarantine outside, away from the coop. Can I quarantine in the basement? She'd have a bunny for company (not in contact, but same room).

Introducing a Single to a Flock of 3

She's coming from my husband's cousin, so it's a semi-known flock. I have not been to her place though. She'll be in my area in the morning and is bringing the hen by so I can see her.

Introducing a Single to a Flock of 3

I may be adding a single, year old hen to an existing flock of three (aged 5-6 years old) tomorrow. Her current owner has had her for one month and she thinks she needs more room. My pen is 12x7. I have a pet carrier/dog crate I can put her in for during the day (in the coop), but am concerned...

    TSC Chick Days?

Well that's no good, now I'll have to go look when it's time! lol I'd like to get some Khaki Campbells and Welsh Harlequins.

    TSC Chick Days?

Does TSC also have ducklings for Chick Days? I've never noticed before. Hubby tries to keep me away from the store during Chick Days. If so, what do they usually have? Or does variety vary by store? I'm in Indiana.

    Duck feed

I'm researching ducks and just saw that on a site last night. Something about crumbles getting stuck in their beaks and they can't eat it as well.

Preparing Your Flock & Coop for WINTER

I did mean for the sides, sorry. I'm more concerned about winds going across. We have a 20 acre farm field to the side and with the trees, it's kind of a "bowl" where wind just swirls.

Preparing Your Flock & Coop for WINTER

I have a dog kennel as my run. Any advice on attaching plastic to this? Wind chills of -15 right about now :(
