We are in north Florida, built our coop 5 years ago & we're having the same thought process about a coop door . We have a ton of predators here as well .
Ended up building the coop & run with a nice size buried predator apron and used 1/4" hardware cloth to keep snakes out as well .
I put a...
I guess I should have specified better about coffee grounds . Coffee grounds are not BAD for the garden ,but like anything else you don't want to over do it. I mix tea leaves & coffee grounds into my compost .They should be used in moderation as they can also increase soil acidity. It is...
Only issue I have is I do deep litter method & use the coop clean out to add to compost pile & use for the garden . Excessive amounts of coffee grounds are not good for plants 😩
We just say "no" to pestisides and herbicides and don't even use miracle grow .We Compost & use natural leaf mulch .
The chickens keep the pests pretty much at bay . 20 years and our property is in balance ......
We also got a TS Roo "pullet" haha happens a lot .
Another alternative is to give him away to someone that doesn't have an issue culling them . Some people post on FB Roos and others collect them up as fast as they are posted !
I wish I could do this instead of the cone ......don't seem to have enough strength. Had to do 2x to sick hens a long time ago and it wasn't quick enough 😢
Another great idea that "hides" the look of the coop is to roll black paint on the hardware cloth ,makes it disappear....painted all the wood black as well ,really made a difference !!
So I read all the reply's and yours as well . Seems that profit is your only goal . . . Look to big business that has failed . You also will fail with the loss of life a huge cost . Guess that's unimportant.
I’m in north Florida and want to acquire ,buy ,trade whatever a couple fertilized chicken eggs for my broody mama for two years to sit on . I’ve posted on Facebook with no luck …..
I tried the time limit and that helps some ,but I finally got tired of them nibbling all my garden veggies and this winter came up with the simplest idea after reading about fences and a zillion other things - we had some freeze. Warnings in N Florida and I covered all my plants at night …...
I joined BYC about two years before I actually got chickens . I had them as a kid & wanted to do the same again . I really wanted to be sure I was giving them the proper home & nutrition that they needed and joining a group like BYC looked like the best option to get answers to my questions .
